D&D 5E (2024) Can we have a discussion about the assumptions we make in terms of balance?

Imo, some things you can say are good or bad pretty much regardless of the game. The Champion subclass, for example, doesn't add all that much to the character, the increase in crit range isn't that big, and crits in 5e aren't too strong if you don't have a lot of dice to add, like a Paladin...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

That does seem to be a thing with D&D that you can't actually change the settings much, a lot of the big villains just don't die when you kill them (Strahd, Acererak, Tiamat, Orcus, etc).

D&D 5E (2024) Does the concept of subspecies of Elves come across as racist to you

If that's how Volo described them, we can safely assume they're all Lawful Good saints.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wizards Do Suck;)

Customizing a background is indeed in the PHB as a base option:

D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

Yeah, definitely. Int, wis and cha will come up more in social situations, it's just that the mind control spells are a bit hard to use most of the time, I mostly see them used when they don't have components like with Sorcerers or a magic item.

D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

I think it's worth noting that spell components are visible to people close to you, so if you cast Charm Person or Suggestion in front of someone, they'll definitely see it happening, along with anyone else around. It's best if you're alone with the target, but they're really hard to use in...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

They're not strictly a caster/martial issue, but I'd say the two biggest ones would be: Too much hard crowd control, a lot of spells make the target just be able to do nothing for a while, and that's from level 1. Makes it too swingy against enemies, and horrible against players when half party...

    D&D 5E (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

In my experience, Eldritch Blast has the nice and reliable damage, but not as good as the Sharpshooter archers for ranged. Would be nice to see how they compare now that the -5 +10 is gone.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wizards Do Suck;)

I always find it odd how people say Wizards don't get a lot of features, when they're always getting more spell slots, higher spell levels, or more spells on their book. Between those and some of the better subclasses, I find they have a ton of good features. Druids still rule though.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Without Magic (PCs)

Changing features would be the homebrew classes part, and they do explicitly call Ki magic either way. I've seen Pugilists in play, they seemed pretty good to replace the Monk. No idea what book they were from though.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Without Magic (PCs)

Only Fighters, Rogues and Barbarians would be left, as even Monk has spells in the base class (Empty Body). Would definitely need some homebrew classes to fill it back up.

D&D General [+] Ravenloft, horror, & safety tools...

Raise Dead does require consent from the target, so it checks out.

D&D General D&D Honor Among Thieves characters

They do get statblocks, but they don't really represent the characters well, imo. Like, the Druid has a bunch of spells, but in the movie she just wildshapes, the Sorcerer doesn't have Dispel Magic or Counterspell, when that's the only reason they beat the Time Stop in the end, and the Bard also...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard (Playtest 7)

Actually, there's one exception, they give the Land Druid for free, but Moon is the most used, although the gap is smaller than the others.

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard (Playtest 7)

I'd imagine a big part of it is that Evoker is the one you can get for free on Beyond without having access to any books. which I think is the same for Champion, Open Hand, Fiend, Thief, etc. All the ones at the top, from what I can tell.

D&D 5E (2024) Memorize Spell is one of the most obnoxious abilities I've ever seen, despite being perfectly on-theme (Packet 7)

Pass Without Trace is level 2. It's not a Wizard spell though. Still pretty insane, makes Druids and Rangers pretty much the best at stealth, poor Rogues can't compare until way later.

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

I can see the how having certain race combinations be the most powerful could be something they don't wanna bring up (like how Paladins selling their soul as Warlocks is usually optimal, just with more eugenics). Still, if you're giving stats at all to them, you'll end up with some being more...

    D&D 5E (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

As I was reading the class, I saw that Brutal Critical now specified the scaling on the level 9 feature itself, and I thought for a second they'd get other stuff on 13 and 17 as well. Alas, they don't. I guess it's a very slight upgrade if you're not using a greataxe, but it's simply not worth...

D&D 5E (2024) Memorize Spell is one of the most obnoxious abilities I've ever seen, despite being perfectly on-theme (Packet 7)

Remember when they tried to let Sorcerers swap out a spell every long rest in an UA, and what went to print was changing a cantrip or metamagic every ASI level? :ROFLMAO:
