    D&D 5E (2014) Guidance on Illusion spells

I had this sorta thing happen to me, where the DM had the mobs do an investigation check when I cast an illusion of myself. The term "DM metagaming" comes to mind.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Rogues Should Not Use a Bow

I see some truth to the OP's points, but I there's a lot that isn't there that argues for a bow. Point being, since a rapier and a bow are dex-based, carry both. Next, use your head to figure out the best strategy. Funnest part about this game is the problem-solving, for me at least.

D&D 5E (2014) Monk Shadow Step: How are you running it as a DM?

If you're worried about balance... yes it is very good, but they aren't using their martial arts or other bonus action abilities either on that turn.

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

I guess what you say in your scenario makes sense - sometimes a dab will do ya. I guess in my scenarios there wasn't any at all, and it made a notably different (worse) group posture - sometimes it didn't matter much, but sometimes it was PCs running and have nowhere to run to and unprotected...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Just curious - have you ever run a table without any melee PCs? In the games I've been apart of without them (and crowd control as well), the PCs get rushed and things are get more dicey for winning fights, even with good dpr.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greater Flurry of Blows

I think what you say is reasonable. Won't break anything.

Have You played In An Official D&D Adventurer's League Event?

I really like AL. If anything, it's a great way to meet players even if the AL format doesn't work for you.

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Indeed. If you just look at starting point-buy stats (and assuming characters have money for plate armor), a str melee is mathematically better in melee than a dex build. Even if a dex build gets plate, that still requires 15 str, which will either take away from their dex or their con (hp).

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Another element to this is that there is in general more CC for melee attackers than archers. E.g., battle maneuvers, stunning strike.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why can’t I find anything wrong with 5e?

I might add one more: Those who played a different edition that did have problems, and get hyper-paranoid whenever a suggested update to 5e is made in the area of those problems of previous editions. EDIT: clarification

Play Your Way to 20: More Changes Announced for AL

Anyways, color me excited. I thought for a while t4 was a dream. Glad it's a reality.

D&D 5E (2014) Ranged Attacks in Close Combat

You point out something that to me is a glaring omission in the rules - really surprised they didn't clear this one up in the errata. Maybe is wasn't a squeaky enough wheel in gameplay to be noticed.

    D&D 5E (2014) A simple questions for Power Gamers, Optimizers, and Min-Maxers.

Well, in effect, when a challenge presents itself (whether battle or social), the group works "well" together to overcome. I've found that players that build good characters are also usually ones that problem-solve well. On the other hand, there are characters that sometimes insist on being...

    D&D 5E (2014) A simple questions for Power Gamers, Optimizers, and Min-Maxers.

Hmm.., "better" than what, exactly? I guess I've played plenty of games where every player built and played their character very well - I think those are the games I enjoy the most. I wouldn't say any comparative factor played into that. Is this what you mean?

    D&D 5E (2014) A simple questions for Power Gamers, Optimizers, and Min-Maxers.

Ok fair enough. This might be a devils in the details kind of thing. Which kinds of customizations were you thinking of? I mean, would the base stats (assuming point buying) for a character be exactly this? Also, I think things get tricky once you have more than one dimension of customization to...

    D&D 5E (2014) A simple questions for Power Gamers, Optimizers, and Min-Maxers.

For me that would break the realism/immersion, and would encourage others to not really take the game very seriously - at least in the customization aspect. In one moment, a player could decide (in spite of their customizations) to be the scout. Then at the drop of the hat they could be the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 2016 Feats Review

Not sure if I agree with alert being a "story-wrecker". A story-changer, maybe? But then most feats can be a story-changer I guess.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sneakity Sneak

One thing to note is that it's not clear in the rules exactly when combat starts. Obviously, when an attack is made - that case is clear. But can a PC or enemy "start combat" without attacking, and get their move to close in as part of their first turn (having surprise)? Or, is that movement not...

D&D 5E (2014) Shadow Step in dark dungeon - general purpose teleport or abuse of feature?

I play with a shadow monk. I shadow step all the time. It definitely does have good uses (as it should). But I haven't felt overpowered, just have opportunities to shine sometimes in ...darkness. Sounds like the beef is more with the class design to begin with than the player playing it.

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

I do not play 4e. I think our only difference is popping out doesn't automatically imply being seen for me, as there's effort on the part of a skilled rogue trying to be stealthy while doing this. Otherwise, being hidden is mechanically moot. I could see an argument for, say, disadvantage on...
