D&D 5E (2014) Double casting feedback? (with concentration limits)

I expect a lot of people would forget it as well, which is more my concern and why I dropped the idea a couple years ago. In order to really work and be close to balanced, there has to be a lot of components to remember. Given the design goals of 5E, if it is so complex to work, it probably...

D&D 5E (2014) Double casting feedback? (with concentration limits)

Yeah, I noted the idea of fireball and lightning bolt in my first post. Although DBF is 12d6, it can get as high as 21d6, and frankly it is on the low-end of 7th level spells as far as damage goes. Especially when you remember the maximum damage is capped by one spell, so you aren't really doing...

D&D 5E (2014) Double casting feedback? (with concentration limits)

Having not played much 3E, I can't contribute how the Haste thing worked. However, I think if we look at spell progression and how many spell slots there are, I can't see this being a big issue really. Consider, that (with my total spell levels + 1 slot used idea), you couldn't even do this...

You HAD to bring that up!?!

D&D 5E (2014) Durable Feat is weak, Healer feat is too strong

This is the reason I nearly always "Unwatch" a thread I no longer have interest in. Then if it gets necroed, often I won't notice. In this case I didn't realize it was a necro until I opened it, checked the OP and last post dates, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) Double casting feedback? (with concentration limits)

I thought about this a couple years ago, but instead of using two separate slots you had to use a slot equal to them both plus one additional spell level. Using your examples: Would require a 3rd-level slot, not two 1st-level slots. You sum the spell levels and add 1. So, a caster would have...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

IME experience it is about a 50/50 split between healbots and non-healbots.

D&D 5E (2014) Forced March and Carry Capacity (random thoughts)

This is the reason all creatures in my games with a flying speed (not magically) have that speed doubled--it is much more realistic of what birds, for example, are capable of flying.

D&D 5E (2014) Durable Feat is weak, Healer feat is too strong

Most of them IME are not of that sort, so maybe it is just you reading more into them than what was actually written. 🤷‍♂️ My post wasn't "raining on someone else's parade". I even had a "smile" after it. The poster I responded to also stated how they don't get how this thread came up given...

D&D 5E (2014) Durable Feat is weak, Healer feat is too strong

Who did?!? :cautious: Correct, no one did that I'm aware. Or we just find it funny that someone replied to a thread that was dead without realizing it. :) Why does it bother you? Every time someone points out a thread necro it is done in fun IME, yet it seems to offend you. Why not just let...

D&D General DM Says No Powergaming?

Then allow me to explain. :) First, a patron is not a god (necessarily, anyway... most often not IME, YMMV). That is the primary difference between Clerics and Warlocks. A Warlock makes a deal, with the promise of power and additional power provided the Warlock keeps its side of the bargain...

D&D 5E (2014) Forced March and Carry Capacity (random thoughts)

Just something I was thinking about on Christmas Eve (don't ask me why... :) ): So, a character with STR 10 can carry 150 lbs all day long, every day, without worry about getting exhaustion, BUT if the same character just wearing clothes dares walk 9 hours in a day instead of 8, they risk...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

It isn't a problem at all, unless it is in your view point? 🤷‍♂️ "Heroes of the Realm" might have a 300' wide chasm to traverse in order to head of an advance party of an army that threatens a city or even a kingdom. Time is of the essence and they are 7th level. Hours matter, if not minutes...

D&D General DM Says No Powergaming?

I'd expect to keep my power, but I would also expect my Patron to send more powerful servants to "set me straight" about the deal I made. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

The 8th-level group has to get by the chasm to their destination (not really "just explore that chasm", although I see why you might have thought that given me calling it an exploration challenge), the same as a 2nd-level group. If you had read my other posts you would understand this isn't a...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

I concur. While I started the thread, I recognize the issue for myself is I prefer low-magic games, and too many spells, too wide a variety, constant cantrips, etc. is directly opposed to the style of game I like. So, in many ways ALL full-casters are an issue, but Wizards just happen to be the...

D&D General Let's Talk About the Changing Game

In my first 5E 1-20 game, the PCs were awarded noble titles and some lands in the kingdom around 10th level IIRC after saving a noble family from disaster and other services to the kingdom. The players went to the lands they were given, had to clear out some things, including an Adult Green...
