    D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts on skills.

FWIW, in the full Mod: Artificers DO NOT EXIST! Bards are half-casters (5th level max) Clerics are CHA-based, not WIS-based Druids -- no changes Paladins gain Cleric cantrips Rangers gain Druid cantrips Sorcerers are a subclass of Wizard Warlocks are half-casters (5th level max) [ In a prior...

    D&D 5E (2014) Balancing Warlocks on a 1-2 combat per day workload.

And that was my first suggestion to the OP. Just play them as written and then if you find them struggling, do something to balance them out. After all, if the 6-8 encounter layout is: 2 encounters short rest 2 encounters short rest 2 encounter long rest with maybe 1 encounter thrown in here...

But they are ahead 60% of the time AND they get Invocations on top of having more spell levels! Considering all their spell slots are at maximum spell level, I also don't find that tiny or meaningless... YMMV, of course. :) This assumes two short rests per day, and is a bit high for me. I could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Balancing Warlocks on a 1-2 combat per day workload.

Although simple, it grants Warlocks not only sufficient spells per day but also more spell levels than other full casters, which combined with Invocations which are often enough at-will spells or additional spells per day (and thus more spell levels) is really too much IMO. Only Wizards who...

Yes, you are correct. The Mod involves nerfing casters, etc. as I've posted about numerous times in different threads... We also strictly use Variant Encumbrance, so dumped-STR-PCs will have issues with carrying all their gear. You shouldn't! ;) We realized if Athletics covers Climbing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts on skills.

I think you missed a point above: you can't take Insight as a skill... it doesn't exist in this concept. (Neither does Perception.) Both Perception and Insight are passive equal to your Wisdom score. That's it. You can take the Observant feat to gain +5 to both. If you want your active checks...

Fine. That's better. :) First, just to make certain there is no misunderstanding, when I say "Passive" I mean "always on, in the background". If you're interacting with someone who lies to you, you always have a BS-detector going. Something perhaps just doesn't jive or feel right, it is your...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some thoughts on skills.

We have a CON feature called Endurance, which grants you extra levels of exhaustion before you feel its affects. We had Concentration, Endurance, and Vitality IIRC at one point, but Concentration quickly became almost a "must-have" skill, which we were trying hard to avoid! Endurance and...

I would add Swimming (since you have climbing, jumping) and Grappling/Shoving as well. Here is the skill breakdown for our Mod: Brawn. Used for lifting, breaking, or bending and other feats of strength. Grapple. Replaces Athletics for grappling/shoving. Knowledge. A broad catch-all term. You...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starting Equipment/Gold Question

Actually, dwarves are known as excellent craftsmen, whether metal, gemstones, stonework, wood, brewing, or whatever. Saying they are only known for crafting metal just enforces the stereotype. This is why "some things just make sense" to you and/or the player. Also, whose to say this dwarf...

    D&D 5E (2014) Balancing Warlocks on a 1-2 combat per day workload.

I agree. No fix needed. Many of my "adventuring days" are just one or two combats, and warlocks work perfectly well as designed, especially if they can get a short rest in between the two combats. I would play them AS IS first, and only if you find them lacking look to buff them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starting Equipment/Gold Question

See, to my mind the Dwarf with a Heavy Crossbow is "typical" of the Dwarven warrior and soo "fits better" due to the stereotype. The longbow you can eventually fire twice without needing the Crossbow Expert feat due to the loading property of the crossbow... And he can start with leather, and...
