As a player, the less “gothic horror” the setting feels (and the less werewolves, vampires, and necromancy-and-undead-being-evil is a thing), the more invested I’ll be in your world.

I was introduced to RPGs with Fallout 1 & 2. I believe they used a modified GURPS. As far as actual Tabletop RPG, 3.5 if I recall correctly. I hated it. I only play 5e now. It’s the perfect game system for me.

Interesting concept, but I would have the weapon going out of control be because of the Elder Evil merging with it, so that the EE and the weapon are now indistinguishable from each other. The demon lord feels unnecessary to me.

Reply to OP. Yes, magic items and treasure are important to me as a player, but even more so as a DM. Nothing makes me happier as a DM than handing each of my players a 3x5 card detailing their newly acquired magic item and watching their eyes sparkle with glee.
