WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Reply to opening post. Well done, WOTC. Seriously, this is more than I was expecting. Now, if you’ll all excuse me, I’ve a 5e SRD to download from D&D Beyond.

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Well, I’m certainly not going to forget that WOTC consider my (and other people’s) response an “overreaction”. Frankly, I find this opinion of WOTC’s insulting. Wait, seriously?

Foundry VTT Statement Update re WotC and ORC

I salute Foundry for this statement. My group doesn’t play via VTT (we tried, but all of us hated it so we switched back to in-person), but if we had to do so again, I’d definitely use Foundry.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Too little, too late for me. I DON’T WANT a new OGL, I want the OGL 1.0(a) to be left alone and remain “authorized” indefinitely. But since that’s not the direction WOTC is apparently intending to go… I shall join the ORC-horde and await the BLACK FLAG’s arrival. Till then, I’ll continue...

A Thought: Probably Best Download all OGL material NOW

What about those game systems sold on DrivethruRPG that don’t use the OGL?

    So how do we respond?

Reply to OP. My group is sticking with 5e for now anyway, but I personally am going to start purchasing from the folks over at Basic Fantasy and also Shadow of the Demon Lord.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Shadow of the Demon Lord would be safe then? I’ll have to check it out.

D&D General Not gonna worry, Will just keep playin (+)

My group has already made the decision not to move on to 1D&D, so we’re probably going to stick with 5e for the foreseeable future. I’ve also recently purchased a copy of Basic Fantasy (which looks drop-dead easy to customize and modify for home game use) and might ask my group to let me run an...

D&D 5E (2014) Your favorite monsters to fight (or run)?

First, it should be noted that I use homebrew statblocks for every monster. Dragons are my favorite monsters to throw at my players, followed by froghemoths, and then constructs and giants. Certain low-level monsters like hell hounds and girallons are also fun for me.

I DM because I like running games more than I do playing in them.

WotC Announces OGL 1.1 -- Revised Terms, Royalties, and Annual Revenue Reporting

reads entirety of thread Not entirely sure about the full implications of a new OGL, but it sounds like even more incentive for me to just stick with 5e and ignore 1D&D completely.

D&D General Deities in D&D: Gods as Tulpas versus Gods as Progenitors

Gods in my settings fall into group 2 (progenitors) or are absent entirely, because at present all of my players are Baptist Christians who reject the ideas that “gods need followers”, “you can ascend to godhood” and “gods are unknowable”.

D&D 5E (2014) Have You Started Planning How You Will End 5e Yet?

Reply to opening post. I’m NOT moving on from 5e, not unless one of my players actually buys the 1D&D rulebooks for me.

D&D General Fun Experiment: Post a cool bit of (mostly) unknown lore from your favorite setting (+)

Dark Sun Every building in the city-state of Nibenay is required by law to be absolutely covered in stone carvings. One of the more disturbing rumors among elf-tribes is that the sorcerer-king of Nibenay is actually a basilisk who is slowly turning the population of his city into stone…

I think he was referring to the Dragonmarked Houses. Going on missions to investigate or undermine them, to be exact.
