D&D General [+]APs, Railroads and Other Linear Adventures

Back in Pathfinder, I played through Rise of the Runelords, Second Darkness (until we derailed it), Curse of the Crimson Throne, and I think Wrath of the Righteous. We had to plug this nasty hole connecting this one country with the Abyss in a “Mythic” campaign. We were going to play Iron...

D&D Celebrity Satine Phoenix & Husband Jamison Stone Accused Of Abuse Towards Freelancers

Reply to OP. Didn’t know the two of them were married, but I’ve never liked Jamison Stone and am not surprised in the slightest about him. There’s always been something about his eyes that screams “do not trust this man” to me. As for Satine Phoenix, think I’ve only seen a single YouTube...

D&D 5E (2014) Get The Vecna Dossier Free At D&D Beyond

It has nothing to do with Challenge rating for me, but rather the fact that every lair action you just mentioned is necromancy themed. Which again, for evil wizards is something I personally find boring and overused in D&D.

Subtle metamagic means you can’t be counterspelled.

D&D 5E (2014) Get The Vecna Dossier Free At D&D Beyond

Reply to OP. Pass. Never cared for vecna. In my opinion he’s just another boring necromancer wizard BBEG lich. Now, if D&D Beyond perhaps offered up (and this is just me spitballing here) a free dossier on a conjuration wizard BBEG who decided lichdom was so last year and instead became an...

D&D 5E (2014) Which common monsters/creature types do you exclude from your campaigns?

I mean... if you strip out Volo’s fear-mongering of orcs and their culture, there is a subtle implication that the orcs are actually a matriarchal society, but I still wouldn’t call it “beautifully written” by any stretch. EDIT Ruin Explorer beat me to it.

D&D 5E (2014) Which common monsters/creature types do you exclude from your campaigns?

Beasts, Lycanthropes, and Undead. Beasts — As a DM, I expect you to want to kill monsters, not cause the next extinction event of regular animals. Lycanthropes & Undead — I’ve played in too many games where the DM wanted to run a horror campaign but couldn’t get the tone right and ended up...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Why We Need Mo' Oerth by 2024

Considering just how little of any treasure the other DMs in my group give out compared to my own campaigns, I would love to see a D&D setting whose elevator pitch is “this is where ALL the magic items are”. In my own personal experience with DMs who have never played or experienced any D&D...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Why We Need Mo' Oerth by 2024

Expedition to the Barrier Peaks writ large, I think.

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Player Survey!

Dark Sun & Mystara. I picked Dark Sun as my favorite because I like the Sword & Sandal genre, the AMAZING art, and all the unique creatures and their associated lore.

D&D General Most memorable mounts from your campaigns?

Tank the Kank from my first Dark Sun campaign. The guy playing the fighter absolutely loved the fact that his spartan warrior-inspired PC rode a giant scarab beetle-ant monster. The Aardvark from one of my Dad’s more lighthearted campaigns. We were fighting an invading colony of formians from...

Spelljammer Chris Perkins and Ray Winninger Interview Discussing Spelljammer and Product Development

raises hand I would argue that Mystara is the Quasi-Historical setting. I mean, you’ve got (almost literally) the Roman Empire and Vikings in a military alliance with each other against Atlantis.

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Why We Need Mo' Oerth by 2024

Dragonborn = Barrier Peaks Lizardoids? Dude, that’s awesome! And it gives Dragonborn a distinct and very Greyhawk flavor

D&D 5E (2014) Speculation thread! Vecna? Giants UA?

Vecna = adventure book. Giants UA = setting book. That’s my opinion anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

If nothing else, we’d at least get a 5e Rune Giant. A 5e remake of the Hollow World would be amazing.

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

Giant Path Barbarian - nothing fancy but it feels to me like a streamlined Storm Herald barbarian. I like it. Primeval Druid - Not gonna lie, I’ve always imagined that the Rakasta species which live on the Isle of Dread were actually gorgonops-folk instead of tiger-folk. Might be a lot of...

D&D 5E (2014) +What Tricks and Shortcuts Do You Use To Make Monsters and other Hazards More Challenging?

My philosophy as a DM is that forcing a player to essentially forfeit their turn because their character failed a saving throw (like against being frightened) leads to player disinterest, not investment. So, instead, almost negative conditions only last until the start of their next turn...

D&D General Let's Talk About Dragons

Yeah, my chief inspiration for dragons comes from the ones in Beowulf and book 1 (Knight of the Red Cross?) of the Faerie Queene.
