    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

In my experience, if you eliminate death saves, 5e suddenly becomes extraordinarily deadly. If you slow down healing/rest rules this would be even more so. That's assuming you even want to do so, I've found challenging players doesn't really require this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanthian pun-spells

I remembered liking the books as a kid. Reread the first three relatively recently. They DO NOT hold up. Specifically Anthony has some very, very problematic views re: women. And if you read the later books, or some of his other works you realize he REALLY has problematic views on men and...

    D&D General Playstyle vs Mechanics

You can add me to that list as well. I've played MANY other RPGs, quite a few on a consistent, even campaign basis. I'd still rate 5e as my favorite. Does that mean I don't want to play or run other RPGs? Not at all, my group takes detours into Gamma World, various Savage Worlds games, did...

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

The D&D club at my son's school is roughly 50/50. It's also one of the biggest clubs at the school (and it's a BIG school).

D&D General Changing subclasses mid-campaign (or even classes)

I always tell my players that they are welcome to change any aspect of their character they like, whatever they feel best fits their concept/vision of the character. Have never had anyone abuse it. Realistically, if they wanted to bring in a new character (and retire the old one) I'd have no...

WotC Some Rich Dude Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" and I Refuse to Care

Nothing happened with the OGL, the end was a net positive. Sigil problems? WoTC has always has had layoffs, Musk would likely be even harsher on that. Considering Musk's current edgelord persona? I sure don't.

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

But we already have the books. Well I guess we're waiting on the newest Monster Manuel, but that's coming quickly. So if it happens and you don't like Musk's version, there is more than enough out that you don't have to switch. Granted for new/incoming players, it might be different...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

If you like 3e, or Pathfinder 2 if you like a different direction. Or you can just keep playing 5e like nothing happened.

WotC Some Rich Dude Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" and I Refuse to Care

There have been some VERY specific explanations why this is inaccurate. Hasbro is not ripe or easy for takeover. Plus, apparently the board has at least one person who knows and hates Musk, it wouldn't be the same as Twitter. Hasbro seems perfectly happy to sit back and let WoTC, WoTC - as...

Old Man Wants to Play Online

I've done play by post and it can be pretty fun. But for a live game? I don't think that would work for me! Last time I DM'd for a group of technically challenged, we got everyone up on zoom (which was a bit challenging, fortunately 2 of us have A LOT of experience getting non-tech savvy...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your Experience Like with '24?

I don't get to play much (forever DM mostly), but next opportunity I get to play, I'm definitely trying out a World Tree Barbarian!

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I really like the adventure collections offered from WoTC recently. Not all the adventures are great, or even good, but there are quite a few real winners and since they're so plug and play, you can just use the ones that work for you.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Thanks for the thoughtful response. My initial interest in this wasn't anywhere near that deep. More just that Rule 0, has always been completely DM centric, whereas this new version is fully group focused. And that's certainly, well, new.

    More seriously? How so?

On a message board? Perish the thought! But it did certainly get a lively discussion going.

D&D 5E (2024) Two Spells, One Turn Confusion Never Dies

2024 has introduced quite a few instances of casting spells without using slots, so yes, this change seems 100% intentional.

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

Well, the perils of courting mega corporationdom. But, I don't know. I took a look at Phandelver and Below, and while I HATED the direction they went, I certainly wouldn't call it bland.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your Experience Like with '24?

Except for Eldritch Knights, fighters don't (with the odd feat as an exception). Plus the whole immune/resistant to non-magic weapons was a bit too binary IMO.

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

Have you looked at Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel? Not all of the adventures are everyone's cup of tea but they are certainly not "generic kitchen sink stuff..." Most of them are really flavorful and quite different.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your Experience Like with '24?

If you're in a group using D&D beyond (and the DM has a master tier subscription) then, assuming they bought the digital books, all players in the campaign get access to them for no cost. Not a comfort if you prefer the physical books, but still a great deal.
