D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

As long as there is player buy in (as opposed to letting the player have the race and then piling on them) then I certainly wouldn't have an issue. As for the objects of fear - it can go both ways, sometimes people LIKE difference, especially if it somehow fits into their belief system. The...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I'll agree that a DM who has a clear vision and works to deliver a unique style and tone is (usually) a big plus. But so are players who advocate for their interests and who express enough interest in the world to want to influence it. Very few DMs have a world that is SO developed that all or...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Forgetting everything else, this is a great way to moot any metagaming concerns. I'll tell my players they are free to rely on their (player) knowledge of the DMG, MM or even any given adventure. But I change stuff all the time and if that player knowledge turns out to be 100% wrong - that's on...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I'm sure. I disagreed with that approach when I started playing in the 80s and I disagree with it even more now. There are people on this board with very much that viewpoint (though I'm still not convinced the main one is not an elaborate troll).

Sure, but that's a BAD way. Perpetuating the cycle is never good! MANY, many years ago in a game I was running, One PC caused the death of another PC. The player of the killed PC then made a character specifically to kill the character that caused his PCs death. When that happened then THAT...

IMO, any DMing approach that involves "teaching the players a lesson.." needs to be eliminated with extreme prejudice.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Ah, you're saying the DM IS the problem bad faith player. It's certainly possible. But the fact is, the DM does have a different role/function than the other players. Part of that function is if a rules ambiguity dispute comes up, especially mid game, it's the DMs role to make sure play...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

But then that player isn't a "bad" player, merely one who is interpreting a rule in their best interest (which make sense). Look, I get what you're saying, and I don't disagree. A DM CAN stop rules squabbling with "here's how we're doing this, moving on..." and as long as their doing so in a...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

How, exactly, is a player acting in bad faith and trying to dominate the table created by the concept of Rule 0?

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I didn't miss that at all. My point was that if it's other than that, e.g. a bad faith attempt at some kind of domination or the like, a rules clampdown won't fix it in the slightest. It's an out of game problem that will require an out of game solution.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Hence my point about good faith. If a player is honestly just interested in some kind of table domination? Then the game involved doesn't matter, they're not a good fit, at least at my table. But the point is, that's a social problem, not a game problem. No in game solution, Rule 0 etc. will...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

We're talking about D&D here, other worlds, other dimensions and portals to those tend to exist. Heck my players are exploring Sigil and the Outlands - not only do they exist, that's kind of the whole point. If you have no interest in running what the player wants? that's also cool, but it's...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Who said anything about a rules exploit? Some players are just good at building characters that function exceptionally well within the guidelines provided. So what you propose (changing the rules to make an option no longer available) is like playing whack-a-mole. My solution to that kind of...

Then, yes, don't allow Tabaxi - and maybe encourage the player who like Tabaxi to try a hand at DMing.

That actually sounds like a pretty good development/ opportunity for a fun campaign! Really gives an opportunity for a "things are different here..." situation.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

What does rule against the "bad" player mean? Does it mean the player's character is overpowered but legal per the chosen game and rules set? Can the DM overrule that? Should they? Rather than just having an honest conversation? Does it mean the player is caught cheating? If so, that's not...

Woops, That's because I thought it was under D&D beyond for whatever reason, but it's not. It's on the Wizards D&D page. Which would explain why the adventure is a downloadable PDF instead of on D&D beyond itself! Thought that was extremely odd, but didn't even question it much. I think it...

Not trying to split hairs, but it actually sounds like they continued playing in spite of the made changes not because of agreement with them. There could be all sorts of reasons - They like the game on balance. They can't find an alternative. etc. But, I don't think continuing to play means...
