D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

Don't think that's there. But pretty easy to add and subtract HP. I add conditions just by border color, very convenient.

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

And I don't know if they've added it very recently (didn't notice it last Sunday for my game), but now creatures full stats are in Maps. Everything is right there for easy reference. They're adding more and more functionality quickly.

D&D 5E (2014) Question for folks who use D&D Beyond: How well does it work with the new rules?

Once you set things up on your end, all the players have to do is click a link (looks like a sideways triangle) on their character sheets in Beyond.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

If your expecting crafting and allowing purchase of magic items, the number of "found" items should absolutely be adjusted. And frankly, purchased magic items are just "found" magic items by another name. There are no purchased items that the DM hasn't allowed to be there (and given the means...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Keep in mind, the 100 items recommendation is over the life of the campaign. 47 of those are common and uncommon, many of which would be of limited usefulness by 18th level (assuming they weren't consumed, destroyed or otherwise lost).

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Well I don't know about "anyone" but WoTC certainly has issues. I'm about to run the final leg of the Planescape adventure (which is for 17th level PCs), and am deciding on what to do with it. As written, a 17th level party of even remotely competent PCs (and players) will almost certainly...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

At 18th, the wizard has only 1 slot each of 6-9th level, yes these should be a valuable resource and the DM needs to make sure they're not constantly replenished/available. Also by that level, lower level slots are somewhat spammable sure, but the wizard needs to be pressed with ways to use...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

If resource management is not an issue for the caster (as in they consistently have more than enough slots to do whatever it is they want to do), then they will almost certainly dominate play. At the least, they will make the various challenges (in and out of combat) way too easy due to the...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Robe of the Archmagi is nice and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to a staff of the magi or staff of power. These items add way too much resource to a wizard's (or sorcerer's) arsenal. To challenge a high level party you have to make sure the caster's resources actually get drained. That's...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Quick question, does the wizard have a Staff of Power/Magi or similar item?

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

I'll have to take a look at the monsters you guys were fighting. But it does seem you guys were LOADED with magic items (10 magic rings each?!?, that means you each probably had amazing other gear too). Martials have gained in power significantly and casters have retained it gained a bit too...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

Full disclosure, I currently have only the D&D beyond version. But you can see, from it, how the physical book is laid out. And I just don't get the complaints. If you know exactly what you want, alphabetical is not a bad way to organize. But if you don't, the book is pretty good about...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

Even with the higher AC, 12 Con is living dangerously with a Paladin. I played one (Paladin with 12 Con) for several levels and was downed in nearly every combat, it was a miracle (and a bit of 5e death save resilience) that he didn't die. When I played a Paladin with 16 Con, didn't have that...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

Only problem with that - since this Paladin is a Dex build, it's difficult to multiclass as you're likely dumping Strength (unless you're allowed to roll and get lucky).

D&D 5E (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

While the higher AC of a shield is nice and a valid option, I think, for this Paladin, 2 weapon fighting is hard to pass up, especially since Paladins can take the two-weapon fighting style now. With Nick you get the extra attack and you still get your bonus action to do Paladin smites and the...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

I'm a bit confused. Unless you wish to Multiclass, you can dump strength, so you will easily have a Dex and Cha of 16 at 3rd level. That means at 3rd level your AC will be 18 (Studded leather plus DEX plus CHA) without a shield. And because STR is not a focus you can get CHA to 18-20 without...

D&D General Playing to "Win" - The DM's Dilemma

Yeah, retreating from combat in 5e is HARD. In my game, I actually just use the old Gold Box rule (from the old series of computer games). Unless there are some circumstances that make it impossible, If a PC or a Baddie move off the map then they have retreated from the combat. Unrealistic...

D&D General Playing to "Win" - The DM's Dilemma

Wizards have a lot of levers they can pull to do cool stuff. The trick is NOT to pull the lever that will make you the center of attention in a very bad way.
