WotC Greg Tito On Leaving WotC: 'It feels good to do something that doesn't just line the pockets of *****'

Jokes aside, this is a d-bag move because he's crapping on the work all his former co-workers are doing now and implying they aren't as ethically clean as he is now. Also, you can think something is sketchy, but making a decades worth of money off of it doesn't tell anyone you were morally...

WotC Greg Tito On Leaving WotC: 'It feels good to do something that doesn't just line the pockets of *****'

If that's how he feels then that's how he feels. Staying and cashing the checks for 9 years seems odd. If you have an ethical problem with it, that's fair, but move on. Anyway, good for him now that's he's onto the ethical clarity of marketing in State Goverment.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

DnD isn't a single thing so this is hard to answer. All editions of DnD? None at all. DnD is beyond a single company, or edition. Modern DnD in general? A bit because WotC's behavior is curating a community that has some pretty toxic pockets by setting expectations both in the system and in...

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

I don't think there's anything special about that specific term. There are some corners of the world where the worst thing you can do is like something, because people will attack you for it. Middle School never ends for some people. They aren't being only that way about the term theater kids.

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

It's neither a pejorative or new. It's just a subculture in the gaming space, as much as OSR, wargammer, or sword and sorcery crowds are. What is new is the shift in subculture to be larger with them, in the same way anime fans are a larger portion of the DnD fanbase now. It's neither good or...

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

I am not saying RP started with those modules. I'm saying it was there from the very start, and I'm listing those modules as evidence that it was assumed for people who weren't around in those days and have bought into the narrative that it didn't exist back then. Without direclty saying it...

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

That's great you still experience it today. I don't really. It's all theater kids it seems. Not putting it down, but not my style and I prefer it backed up with character actions and not just dialog.

D&D General Roleplaying Origins of Early DnD

Just dropped a blog post about The Origins of Roleplaying in Early D&D and wanted to get your thoughts. TL;DR: Contrary to what some folks think, roleplaying wasn't an afterthought in early D&D - it was baked right in from the start. Think Keep on the Borderlands, Village of Hommlet, and all...

Project Sigil Now You Can Watch WotC's 3D VTT 'Project Sigil' In Action!

Yep. there are moments. Talespire is pretty amazing but never made much traction so I'm not sure why this is. Too much pre, too much of a distraction and other reasons. It may play better for an online session, but definitly not interested in this for in person games.

Project Sigil Now You Can Watch WotC's 3D VTT 'Project Sigil' In Action!

The vibe shift when everyone starts just looking at their laptops and struggling with managing the VTT didn't make me want to use it at my table. Maybe for online play though? Live play, it seems like it just adds more complexity than you need.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

I can understand why WotC wouldn't want images of every page from their new Player's Handbook online. However, this controversy is largely a situation of their own making. Flip-throughs have been common practice for years. WotC releases the book at GenCon, a month ahead of the regular release...

D&D General Pitch Perfect - Using a Pitch Deck for Your D&D Campaign

For folks like us who don't have a steady gaming crew, finding the perfect players and setting clear expectations is super crucial to start any game on the right foot. I've found that using a Pitch Deck for my campaigns is a killer way to attract the right kind of adventurers and lay down some...

D&D 5E (2014) Places of Power as magic rewards in D&D

The idea has been floating around since the earlies days of DnD so it wouldn't surprise me if it was more codified in 3e. 5e uses this as the basis for Lair Actions, which is fine enough but it's tied to the monster and doesn't present much to the player. I've used this for some great...
