Yep. I saw the yellow for the first time in two years a little while ago and got some. The green comes out locally maybe twice a year and is gone within a week.

Innnnnteresting. Who do you mean in particular?

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

The other thing I’m noticing in this conversation is that the X card is also an attempt to continue the game while addressing the issue. Some of these scenarios are game enders, hard stop.

D&D General Tucker's Kobolds: worth using in 5e?

So I think that’s part of the problem. I can sit down and come up with numerous different tactics and traps and map chokepoints to represent kobold warrens that benefit the kobolds and disadvantage the PCs but if I’m not stopping to think about whether I’m modifying the CR for the encounters and...

D&D General Tucker's Kobolds: worth using in 5e?

I would question why I need to present that kind of a challenge to players to begin with. Kobolds already have a solid ability in pack tactics that speaks to the way they engage enemies. Counter question: what CR modifier or XP bonus would you place on Tucker’s Kobolds?

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

Yeah, I agree - that's trivializing and abusing the intent of the tool.

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

It's a piece of paper put on the center of the table or held nearby that everyone can see and ask to use, and the only investment of time is explaining its purpose.

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

Is there really an investment in using the X card? It’s simply a tool and really, to my mind, a symbol to say it’s okay to say something is making you uncomfortable. What investment is there?

D&D General Tucker's Kobolds: worth using in 5e?

So much this. I’ve never liked Tucker’s Kobolds as presented. To me, it’s not really an exercise in making monsters smarter, it’s stage dressing for how can the DM, who has the total advantage of setting up the map, the obstacles, knows the party’s abilities beforehand, and can scale the...

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

Oof. Yeah, I think the X card is useful but these are the kind of nightmare circumstances where safety tool or not, I’d be saying “oh hell no. Stop the game.” There have been times where people are not in the right mood to play a game, and it’s best to just not play at all. Acting out like...

    Cocktails

Yeah, Mezcal was not one of my usual spirits but I really enjoyed both drinks. I was just lucky in finding the yellow chartreuse; it’s what prompted the whole thing. That stuff has gotten really hard to find!

    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

Ah, I found my unpopular geek opinion now: I thought Event Horizon was only average at best, with few scares outside of a jump scare or two, an obvious plot, bad sound effects (if you use the Doom WHOOSH effect, you automatically earn naughty word movie status in my book), hokey “outrun the fireball...

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

So I guess I don’t agree on what the bar for evidence here is.

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

I think if there’s any disagreement at all is whether what SlyFlourish pointed out is purely anecdotal or not.

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

It sounds like what you’re looking for is a smoking gun in the data which is hard to find largely because the actual full success of D&D and the TTRPG industry is obfuscated - by Hasbro or Google not wanting to publish certain metrics or by the difficulty of gathering that data from the smaller...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I think as a shorthand for an NPC’s personality or view of the world, it was a useful tool. It was much less useful and active source of conflict when it was applied to PCs.

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

I don’t think you can disentangle the success of 5e from the rise of streaming, CR as the biggest, and most well known AP any more than you can disentangle the success in the broader TTRPG market from Kickstarter/Backerkit. All of these forces worked together in my eyes to lift all boats.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Watched the Jaws at 50 documentary last night, and got this weird cognitive dissonance watching clips of Robert Shaw dressed as Quint talking with his usual British accent. I mean, I’ve seen him in other movies where he uses his normal accent but that role - I always hear the Quint voice. 😂

Yeah, well, that’s a choice, and even then there are ways of addressing the elephant without discussing it, much as we’ve done here so far.
