Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, I can’t hold a candle to any of this, but I'm still in my first house that my wife and I bought about 22 years ago, and that's something at least!

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

I don't know why this had to be tied to that word. They are different species. Bio-essentialism is not a term brought up in discussions of different characteristics of species.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

And now it seems they have the worst of both worlds - the lore changed, and the class is, to my eye, plain Jane vanilla and boring.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I agree in principle but I will caveat that it depends - if the complaints about the lore were consistent and contained the same general complaint (i.e. the same keywords), that could've bubbled up.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

A lot of WOTC folks with social media accounts took to those same accounts to directly refute that.

Brennan Lee Mulligan to GM Critical Role Campaign 4

They’re saying it’s “likely” but that’s just an educated guess.

TSR Blast from the Past- How to Go Full Monty Haul in AD&D

I actually never stopped to consider what stuff like qv, cf, ibid, and the like ever meant but you’ve definitely piqued my interest now.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I don't know about "most", but it would've been interesting to see an alternate history where D&D and AD&D never combined, and you had WotC kept both game systems going. D&D Classic versus D&D Next or some such. There's probably a million and one reasons why that would be baaaaaaad for business...

D&D 5E (2024) So what's going on with the October book?

I don't know what the point is of talking about the popularity of one setting versus the other, even if one supposedly has data to back it up. It doesn't confer any kind of superiority - just fans being fans of what they like.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That is the smallest, most infinitesimal hill to die on but so many people are doing it in that thread and I’m done with it.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Summarization of sentiment on a bunch of forum content is not even what I would call AI. NLP has been doing this for years. Whether or not WotC actually did that on responses to do sentiment analysis or summarization I’d be a little skeptical of, but it’s not at all outside the realm of possibility.

What are you reading in 2025?

I’ve stopped books 2/3rds of the way in before because I’ve realized they weren’t going to get better.

3.5 mile ruck with 30 pounds and man, I was ready for a beer by the end of that one.

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

Yeah, when I've waded through the various retroclones and OSR games, I've been looking for my Goldilocks version of 2e but always coming to the same results - this one is too hot, this one is too cold, but never finding one that I thought was just right. Then I decided I'd just go back to the...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I think there's reading the comments and then there's deriving something actionable from the comments.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Not all fans of the Forgotten Realms are alike when it comes to how they want the lore to be treated.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This. Maybe it's my own search and viewing habits, but I rarely go digging for a topic but I often see a thread necro'd without any mention that it HAS been necro'd.

Brennan Lee Mulligan to GM Critical Role Campaign 4

Yes, just as Critical Role likewise had to remove their references to Vecna, Tharizdun, Beholders, Mind Flayers and the like as they progressed as well. As time has gone on, the links to D&D have grown more and more tenuous.
