    IN REMEMBRANCE--2025

Calvin Klein is still alive. So is Ralph Lauren and Miuccia Prada.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

I assure you that if you have as many posts on this message board as we do, you are already an Alpha-Nerd! ;)

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I think this is a discussion between the DM and the player. I can see it work in either way, depending on what both want to accomplish. The pact can be revoked and punishment can ensue that has a mechanical detriment, which is something the DM and the player are going to have to work out. Or...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

So the characters he was playing was scientist and then after that marines. The scientist died because obviously he was the most qualified to operate the REDACTED and became REDACTED. 😁 But here’s the thing: Marines and Androids have a higher death rate but that’s also half the characters you...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

You know what I’ve noticed? Everyone here, and I mean absolutely naughty word everyone, seems to be a master DM or super experienced player across multiple systems or editions and crazily enough, everyone still disagrees and has different experiences. No newbies here. Everyone here runs perfect...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

There were times we had advantage, but I don’t remember the exact mechanic for when we got advantage on a roll. Resolve was like Inspiration, but you got one Resolve per session survived. The whole don’t roll vs roll thing - I dunno. All I can say is “I guess you had to have been there?” And I...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I’m really going to have to go back and look at that Advantage and see what you mean - maybe we missed something key there. Sometimes you’d have it but not always. So, meat grinder. FOR ME…lol…meat grinder is any game where there’s a high death rate which 40% to 50% of the PCs did in our...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I, for one, welcome our AI overlords who may one day decide to nuke us, or tell us drinking bleach is fine, but at least the interactions for now are very polite.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I think we were two marines, one teamster, one scientist and one android playing Gradient Descent. :) I guess my question is what makes you think you have great stats in that game unless you are actually able to survive and buy additional training, which is not really a guarantee? Like just...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

The medusa in Tomb of Annihilation wiped our party of 3 (we were one player short). Two people failed their saves, rolled badly, and it became academic at that point.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Someone not on a message board. An actual human interaction where it's not about showing off how smart you are.

I swear to god some people here must never have talked to anyone real in their entire lives.

Hmmm, based on that, I'm not sure you'd dig Mothership either. You can definitely have one character panic, thus causing everyone to take additional stress, and possibly trigger more panic rolls. Also, combat isn't as detailed but is pretty dangerous. We were using some modifying rules to make...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

I don't follow. I'm not talking about message board theory-crafting, I'm talking about an actual in-game encounter during the course of a campaign. I'm not really into a pissing match over whether our characters were built according to whatever standard you have.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Well, I don't know what optimization means to you or how you can tell from my post whether or not our party was optimized, but consider that it wasn't just a Marilith - it's a Marilith plus a Lich in the lich's lair. It wasn't our first fight of the day either so while I don't think we were...

D&D General What even are you? (a poll)

I'm calling it an even split of GM and Player though that's not an even spread across all games, and often it's at different points in time where I was 100% GM/DM, and then later, 100% Player for a whole game system, and so on.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Our 5 PC party got nearly wiped by the lich in Dungeon of the Mad Mage which also had summoned a Marilith. The fight was in a fairly small space in the Lich's tower which meant most of us were in range of the Marilith's attacks.

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

I think the reason I bounce off any hard line discussion of 1e rules is just the actual structure and organization of the books themselves. I was maybe 13 or 14 years old when I first bought my 1e Player's Handbook? I couldn't make it through A Tale of Two Cities for my Freshman English Class...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Okay, but by the same token, one of the rules of the game was also that before you even got to the training, the DM had to grade your performance in your chosen class based on a letter grade system of E, S, F and P, and if you ask me how I know that, it's because I just looked it up because I...
