Well. My point right now is that you are not the only person participating in this thread and maybe not every comment is meant for you or for you to engage with.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

No, I was responding to anyone. It was just a general statement but I wasn’t specifically addressing what kind of *punk Star Wars is.

My initial response wasn’t directed at you.

Does the terminology have to describe its outlook as opposed to its trappings? It’s got a princess and a hero who needs to save her from an evil space warlord with his laser sword. It’s right at home with stuff like Flash Gordon in tone. Let’s put it this way: I don’t think space opera doesn’t...

IMO, there was a perfectly good term for Star Wars used for years: Space Opera.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Yeah, even back in the day, we'd roll 4d6 drop lowest multiple times until we got the character we wanted with scores that everyone just nodded "we're acceptable" - as if they passed some communal smell test. Point buy or standard array just gets rid of all that nonsense.

I don't think any of these things we're teasing about are necessarily bad in certain contexts. But depending on the goal, not every game is going to be good for every playstyle and table. Mothership is my favorite current example of an OSR game where it makes total sense that the character I...

I also thought it was funny that they gave experience point bonuses to the PCs with the highest prime requisite scores, i.e., the characters who needed an advantage the least!

Why, your fifth level fighter with an 3/2 attacks and an AC of 2 might be knight in armor, or a barbarian warrior, or a gladiator! As long as you are happy with your 3/2 attacks and AC of 2 - whatever else you imagine in your head is fine! (just don't ask me to give you something concrete on...

D&D General Friday Fun: Explain A D&D Thing Badly

I roll around this little ball of bat doo doo in my hands, and then I throw it at those guys over there, and somehow it explodes. (Smells fingers).

I could be wrong but that sounds a lot like how I’ve heard Shadow of the Weird Wizard character creation works with the different novice, expert, master paths.

How about it’s just a couple people’s opinions?

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Yeah, perhaps. I think it’s just a personal organizational preference of mine. Like someone just being able to say “My character is a Bladesinger” and that be a concrete thing versus “My character is a multi-class Wizard Bladesinger who’s dipped Fighter for a couple levels but may go...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

My personal take is that I’d like to see multi-class go the way of the dodo in favor of much more classes and subclasses. That may just be shifting problems around but at least the problems of balance will remain entirely within the class/subclass rather than interactions between different...

Well, I wasn’t really thinking of Paizo as an example so much as I was thinking Goodman Games recently. But I guess I don’t see anything in this thread eviscerating…anything really.

Must suck being the big dog. Of course, this is true only if you ignore smaller companies that also got blowback for products (and honestly, this isn’t even blowback).
