WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox, "I would say that the underlying thesis of our D&D business is all about digital,”

The tone here is different than the one Kyle Brinks had on his OGL apology tour. I don't think Brink was going to these various youtubers and saying that moving forward dnd was "all about digital." On the other hand, he didn't refute the substance of there being a shift, but described it as...

WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox, "I would say that the underlying thesis of our D&D business is all about digital,”

Can they make money while still operating with something resembling good faith regarding their fan base? Because at this point a lot of fans just assume they are being duplicitous along the lines you indicate. Will that be good for long term business?

OSR Necrotic Gnome's Dolmenwood coming to Kickstarter on August 9 (with fancy limited edition slipcase set)

Yeah he said there was just too much info to put on A5 pages. The adventures will still be a5 though in their house style

b/x is popular because it's an easy lingua franca for dnd-style games. For most OSR systems all you need is the HD of the monster and everything else can be derived at the table. Games like Knave and Black Hack are explicit about how to do this, for example. That said, some systems require...

OSR Necrotic Gnome's Dolmenwood coming to Kickstarter on August 9 (with fancy limited edition slipcase set)

By rules do you mean the modified b/x or the entire monster book? The modified b/x will probably not add that much to the page count, as NG is known for economic presentation and the books are A4 size. I don't think the added page count added to the cost of the KS. As it is for $95 I'm...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

I don't know the whole history, but I can't imagine the emphasis on "natural language" in 5e came out of nowhere. My understanding is that it was an explicit turn away from the more 'gamey' language of 4e; I also think that matters even if some of the underlying concepts are the same or...

Somewhat tangential, but this video goes into some of the numbers for 5e

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

I don't know if 4e was similar to an MMO but per OP it seems that the wotc execs wanted to make a game that was similar to an MMO and intervened in the game design process to that end.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

I actually don't trust Perkins to write and layout a book like the dmg. He has good ideas but in the products he works on the presentation is all over the place

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

It speaks to how, when considering game design, we should take into account things other than Designer Intent. Whatever you feel about the design of 4e (or any other edition), it's clear it was in part shaped by prerogatives that had little to do with game design. For example when we have the...

I did a book-only pledge (standard tier). I hope they don't wait to ship the books until everything is ready because sometimes all those little extras in different formats take a while to get right (the LP, the pins, etc).

OSR Necrotic Gnome's Dolmenwood coming to Kickstarter on August 9 (with fancy limited edition slipcase set)

Though, to be real, these kickstarters lowball their funding numbers with the expectations of going way past them. For example, I think many of the stretch goal adventures are, according to Norman, well on their way to be done.

OSR Necrotic Gnome's Dolmenwood coming to Kickstarter on August 9 (with fancy limited edition slipcase set)

I ran a mini Dolmenwood game about a year ago using material from the Necrotic Gnome patreon. It's really an enchanting setting; my players loved it. Can't wait to possibly return and explore more of it.

WotC WotC: 'Artists Must Refrain From Using AI Art Generation'

The broader issue for me with respect to automation is, if something is automated, who gets to benefit from the supposed increased productivity and inefficiency. That's not a question about the technology, but about how our laws, regulations, and politics shape the use of that technology. In...
