D&D 5E (2014) Why Is The Assassin Rpgue?

The availability of surprise rounds is almost entirely up to the DM. When I played an assassin early in the 5E era and set up the PC to be an assassin, the DM with which I was playing didn't make it hard for me to set up surprise rounds. I had the high initiative bonus and almost always went...

    D&D General Spell Compendium Apps/Software

I have been slowly moving my inventory of homebrew from the editions into Excel. I have two tabs - One lists all the spell 'fields' as separate columns, and the other is a one page viewed that allows me to type in the name of a spell and then it looks up the text of the spell and runs a macro...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Is The Assassin Rpgue?

I am surprised you'd think it was that low of a percentage. I played an assassin early in 5E and it was able to get these bonuses regularly. We usually had me sneak in and do an alpha strike and then lure the enemy to us on our terms. Most recently I had an archer build add 3 levels of...

    Evil Genius Games bleeding personnel?

You're out of line telling me what I can and can't be confident in based upon my personal experience. You were not there and can't judge my relationship with Dave by a few sentences in a message post. I was careful about what I said, and I meant every word of it. Further, you told me I...

    Evil Genius Games bleeding personnel?

I played D&D with Dave Scott for a few years in multiple campaigns. I consider us friends. We've argued, laughed, argued some more, and covered the entire spectrum of interactions that come with years of role playing. Despite not seeing each other face to face in a few years, I consider Dave...

D&D General The Mysterious Isle & Eye of Xxiphu - Time Travel Query

Are you actively planning on killing the PCs just to pull this off? It seems like something unlikely to take place - certainly not likely enough that I'd go to people to advice should it happen. You're talking about two specific PCs out of the party being the ones that die.

Did the Ads Recently Change on this Site (New Pop Ups)

I think we'd all like to understand what you're expecting us to see on cell, laptop, etc... with regards to these ads, Morrus. Can you clarify what the intent is? I try not to use ad blockers as they defeat the purpose of ad revenue support, but these things flash and are highly obnoxious.

D&D 5E (2014) If you had natural armor, would you wear manufactured armor?

Two reasons the answer might be yes: 1.) You get a higher AC. Who doesn't want a higher AC? 2.) It looks cool. I had a player design, but did not run, an updated version of the old Dwarven Battlerager with a Tortle, rather than a Dwarf, as the base. Essentially, he drilled and attached...

Did the Ads Recently Change on this Site (New Pop Ups)

Here is a blown up screen shot from my cell - no video this time. However, the banner at the bottom is still there and blocking functionality.

Did the Ads Recently Change on this Site (New Pop Ups)

I am still getting two adds at the bottom of every screen I access. One is a banner across the bottom. The bar runs the length of the screen, but the add is only in the middle. In the lower right there is a little "video" ad that autoruns unless you block autoplay. Both require you to click...

I am getting tired of clicking those x buttons. It might be time for a little hiatus.

    D&D General character death?

It sounds a bit like you'd done some research in advance and knew you wanted to make that situation happen in the moment of sacrifice. Did you foreshadow it? Did you drop hints that could be seen in retrospect to indicate your 'take a hike with the One' might be there? If so, you're doing...

    D&D General character death?

Why do we have honour mode in BG3? Why do people brag about not having to reload those CRPG games? Why don't we just reload the second the first thing goes wrong in them? Why do we still try to pull it out until it is absolutely lost? Why do so few people run the games on total easy mode...

D&D 5E (2014) Can I use action surge in the middle of another action (between attacks when attacking with extra attack)?

As others point out, there is no rule against it. Some would argue that implies there is a rule against it due to the movement statement. That is easily argued as either implying there is a rule, or as a reminder that you can do things between attacks in a multi-attack. When I encounter a...

    D&D General character death?

There are judgement calls here - but the game itself, within the rules, sets up ways to bring back the dead, etc... That is all fine. They're set up. What is not set up would be the deus ex machina BS that we all can feel when it happens. The real test is whether the PCs feel the DM...

    D&D General character death?

Using allies, magic, etc... to turn back death is perfectly fine - but again, only if it makes sense and has been set up. It is part of the game world - it should be used. What I am saying is that contrivance to protect the PCs is bad ... and I see it a lot as a player. I have (even...

    D&D General character death?

My point was that the storytelling is better without fabrication and twisting to keep the heroes alive. Players almost always know when you pull your punches - and that takes away from the game. They'd usually rather have their PC die than realize they're immortal due to story armor. To put...

    D&D General character death?

In my world, once something is put into play, it stays in play until it resolves. If the PC that cared about it died - it still resolves and the player can (usually) see it - or hear about it in some way. This gives the world a more dynamic feel. Further, when a character dies, their story...
