I’ve definitely turned to boosting HP to give my monsters stating power. I often found they could dish it out but couldn’t take it meaning the battles ended up underwhelming. I started fudging HP but eventually switched to just max HP.

I stopped buying adventures with Dragon Heist. I’ve picked up one or two expansions since then. Of the adventures I own I’ve not run Strahd and Tomb of Annihilation. I haven’t bought Princes because I played it for a bit and wasn’t a huge fan. So I guess that‘s most, which is pretty good.

We‘ve had discussions about past WotC adventures (dragon heist being a memorable one) so I think I’m going to get this as a point of comparison. If WotC is not in the drivers seat, does an adventure pass the smell test?

I would say that if a check has been called for then we’ve left “easy” behind. I agree that it‘s poor choice of words to describe the DC, but it’s not obvious what would be better. “good chance of success” is a bit clumsy :)

This seems simple to resolve, just quote from the beholder MM entry the description of its spellcasting such that counterspell can be adjudicated?

I think this is a bit of a strong reading, one spell has been made into an action, the remaining spells can all be counterspelled. I think it‘s a good change that will make running spellcasting NPCs much easier. The new War Cleric example I saw looked great.

Just to keep score we now have exploration sucking, combat boring… So dare I ask how we feel about social interaction?

I’m a fan of the pathfinder standees. It let’s you have a large number of figures that don’t use up a ton of space. I store them in a binder in extra deep plastic sleeves. Easy to flip through and find the perfect one.

I like to use natural language as much as possible to avoid getting into a numbers game, using words like easy or hard to describe the difficulty or armor class. I also pre-roll initiative to avoid the combat swoosh. (I also adjust monster HP on the fly if the encounter is not delivering the...

It’s my understanding that the difficulty levels in the DMG are floors rather than ceilings and this is why things generally seem easier than expected.
