D&D 5E (2014) The 6-battle adventuring day, does it even exist?

This is probadly due to the information imbalance. The players are almost always in the dark, whilst the DM know what will happen next.

D&D 5E (2014) The 6-battle adventuring day, does it even exist?

It’s not per long rest, it’s per adventuring day. Not every day is an adventuring day.

A wiki page would be best, and it can have a comment thread.

D&D General Dungeon Master or Referee?

This is because the game has its origins in war gaming where two opposing “generals“ would put their armies against each ither and a referee was needed to ensure fair play. The dungeon master evolved from that as now teams were instead pitted against a pre-planned dungeon. Now things are much...

D&D General What are your favorite DM Advice Media?

This is why I like Zipperon Disney, as I think his stuff is aimed at experienced DMs looking for deeper analysis and advice.

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

Hussar’s earlier post was the best definition I’ve seen yet. And it really should end the debate IMHO.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Shops in Your Campaign

I used the Sane Magical Item Price list for my shop in Waterdeep, it worked out fine and the PCs were able to trade in some older items for more useful things. Nothing was particularly cheap, but it made for a fun RP session one time.

D&D General Poll: Should a poster be expected to read (or at least skim) all posts before posting in a thread?

People don't have all the time in the world and some of these threads do go on... :) When I do that, I generally preface it with an apology if my point has already been made and carry on. Then people can easily skip my contribution if it's redundant.

D&D 5E (2014) I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I feel the player’s pain and wonder why you had them roll in the first place, if there was no chance of failure?

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

Well I’m not trying to be clever, I was just trying to respond to Max’s assertion that moving an encounter (the infamous ogres) from one route to another in order to complicate the player’s journey was not a big concern for me. I “force” the action to where the characters are, not where they...

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

I simply mean that I’m constantly trying to get in their way. I’m forcing obstacles in the way of their goals.

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

I guess as a DM I’m always forcing things on my players, my job is to get in the way of their goals to provide a challenging game. I guess I really don’t understand why the source of the challenge matters, I’m just playing my part. I absolutely agree that if I insist on an encounter the...

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

Ok, but then I really don’t understand how as a player that you’d be unhappy that something you didn’t know would happen, happened?

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

This is why we’re talking in circles. You seem to be arguing that the players know the ogres are on the route (the Janet Jackson in your analogy) whereas we’re arguing that they’re choosing between the mall and the movies (Janet Jackson is no part of the choice).

    D&D General Why defend railroading?

As has been noted by others, in this example if the players are not aware that ogres are on the route before they embark, then all they experience is an encounter on the route that happens to feature ogres. They are not forced in any way, they’re playing an adventure game and expect encounters...
