    D&D 5E (2014) COS - Spoilers! Need plot help.

It really depends. Some DMs run games so that any "off-screen" NPC is basically a target at any given moment. This can be tense, but it can also be tedious. Sometimes it gets frustrating because you feel like you have to keep everyone plot-important in your field of vision at all times or...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Curse of Strahd" (and DDAL adventures)

I hand-waved a huge chunk of it, yeah. By the time my players got there, they were all about level 8 and nothing was really a challenge, so they mostly explored it and got a lot of flavor text and not much else. Plus there is oddly about 4 or 5 different ways for them to figure out about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strahd's Lines

Our group's chosen NPC from the card draw was Sir Godfrey. Spoiler: he is a knight of a fallen order who was killed by Strahd. I have been playing up the chivalrous side of Sir Godfrey, so when he first encountered Strahd he launched into a short speech about how he had sworn vengeance. So...

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd help

Probably indifference. The Abbot has a plan that he KNOWS will work (in his insane mind). He probably won't be bothered with Ireena, as he probably doesn't know how important she is to Strahd, and even if he does he'd likely think she'll just get killed anyway, like all the others. My Abbot...

This makes perfect sense to me. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) CUrse of Strahd - Vallaki help

That sounds like a good plan. As others mentioned, the Wachters will quickly make a move once they know Izek is not a threat. So the Barron will try to make a deal to get his man back - "all is well" if they return him - but if it doesn't work, he could try to get them evicted but by the next...

Unearthed Arcana June Unearthed Arcana: Druid Shepherd, Fighter Cavalier, and Paladin of Conquest

It took a while but I see what you're saying here. While I would personally rule that transferring the spell to a new target would be the equivalent of casting, frankly it doesn't matter if the king sees you or not: Hex is a no-save, no-attack, 1st-level spell that takes a bonus action to cast...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Ah, I see! I have never put my hands on one of those but I would love to see it one day. I guess the heart of the thing I'm having a hard time getting ideas about is: how do you simulate a "lack of control" without taking someone's character sheet away? Hence the idea about "when you get...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Not that we need to get too far off on a tangent, but I checked the AD&D MM and the original I6 module and I can't find anything about lycanthropy rules requiring this. It is something you hear a lot, though (thus this character's original belief). I find it a little too close to the vampire...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Here are my thoughts on crunch so far. This is sort of tailored to this situation: a barbarian who chose the curse. I like that it is mostly a penalty at first, but can evolve into something that will be very strong in combat (at RP cost). Starting immediately - Can communicate with wolves...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Nope, I just find it lacking. Great thoughts.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

Well, in my mind the PC is more or less some flavor of evil already, just from choosing to be a werewolf. He still has loyalty to his party, but he seriously considered just turning all the prisoners instead of freeing them, for example. He's extremely close if not over the line in my mind...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd (spoilers): PC wants to be a werewolf

This is not exactly a new problem, especially with this adventure. Here's the context for those who want to read it: (spoilers) The character, who I'll call Creepshow, is a barbarian who has the insanity that he believes he's a werewolf even though he is not, and he is constantly hunting for...

    D&D 5E (2014) CoS - Donavich the usefull Ally

I like this idea a lot. It's also a good way to balance out allowing him to be a higher level, and/or he can level up with the party to keep his power at about the right place.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - Need some rules lawyers

Ok first off: this is awesome. In like, every way. Second: a thread about Curse of Strahd? And you want rules lawyers? It's like Christmas for evilbob! :) (Oh wait - it was Christmas!) No wonder I was mysteriously summoned to check this forum... To the OP: personally, I think your...

    D&D 5E (2014) A whole group with Darkvision!

Are you kidding, I love it when this happens! Keeping track of mundane things like light sources is always just a chore - it's SO much easier when they all have darkvision and I can just ignore it completely. (Things don't have to be in the dark to be scary / hiding / jump out at you.)

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Roleplaying as Strahd

The truth is: most of your ability to RP Strahd during the moment is going to be hamstrung by the obvious nature of the plot and the infinite vampire tropes you have to work with and against. I wouldn't sweat it too badly because there's just no way you can really play him up at your table...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Curse of Strahd" (and DDAL adventures)

There was a huge server crash where something like 3 or 6 months or something's worth of threads got lost. It's possible that was in there. Sounds awesome! :) I love how if you have 100,000 groups running this game you're going to get 100,000 different endings. And grats on actually...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a spell be cast to cause non lethal damage?

Generally: sure, why not? The entire concept of "knocking someone out" like it doesn't cause long-term damage to them is fantasy anyway so why not do it with a spell? :) This exact situation: I like the suggestion about using a higher slot or otherwise making it a little more difficult...
