    D&D 3.x Crafting and Balance? (3.5)

You pay for that extra wealth in gp value of magic items by the loss of a feat (and a token amount of xp which is rapidly recovered thanks to the way xp earning works).

Sleep Poison not a Sleep Effect?!?!?!?!?!

Weird issue here. You say immune to sleep effects obviously covers sleep poison, so they didn't write it in. Someone else says immune to sleep effects obviously doesn't covers sleep poison, so they didn't write it in. Who is to say either is right?

    Ranger/Druid/Wolflord question

Sounds like you need a wand of cure light wounds. Last thing you want is to lock up your spell slots with healing spells. Filling your spell slots with offensive magic is almost always more efficient as a means of reducing damage taken.

Put a Symbol on a shield?

Strictly by RAW, it seems you can. 3e allows the spell to be cast on a surface (including a doorway). I suspect, though, this may be a loophole they forgot to specifically rule out. They did specifically rule out putting it on a weapon and striking with it ("You can’t use a symbol of death...

    Roping through portals

Two-way portals allow things to pass freely across the boundary. They may or may not have some kind of sensory screen that stops you sensing (sight/sound) what is on the other side (which may or may not block senses in one direction only), and a hostile environment might destroy any probes...

    Full attack action

Short of actually be dropped by the aoo, you can finish you attack normally. If your DM insists on this rule, ask to play a Natural Spell druid.

What's the most critical piece of dungeoneering equipment?

Scrolls of tp can be pretty important for those times when you need to go in a hurry.

Cape of the Fire Bath = immune to fire?

I'd let that item grant fire resistance 5. That's clearly what its writers intended.

What's the most critical piece of dungeoneering equipment?

A hireling. They can fight, carry your stuff, carry treasure, make good human shields, give flanking bonuses, give enemies an alternative target, and in a pinch you can use them as an improvised weapon, as a substitute 10-foot pole, or even burn them as a light source! There's probably ways...

    An alternate ranger class ???

The Piazza • View topic - [d20a] Favoured Enemy re-training Favoured Enemy Re-Training: Each morning, a ranger may choose to re-train his list of favoured enemies. He choose one favoured enemy type that he encountered in the previous 24 hours. His bonus against this favoured enemy type...

Why is flight considered a game breaker?

This sounds like a very interesting approach. Would it be possible to be, say, a transmuter 3 / conjurer 3, with separate caster levels and spells selected for each of those two classes? Is that likely to break anything?

Why is flight considered a game breaker?

Based on this thread, I've made the following changes to my house version of fly: * Target changed to self only. * Movement rate changed to your normal land speed; more of an overpowered hovercraft than a superman-esque strike a pose and whoosh. * Duration expires if you stop maintaining it...

    Sight Questions

On a perfectly level field with no slope at all, you could see another human up to about 3 miles away before the Earth's curvature would obscure him from view. That's probably a reasonable upper limit on vision.

How many times do you get to save vs. an illusion?

My personal take on it is that you get a save: * The first time you interact with the illusion. * Each time a new person tells you it is an illusion. Incontrovertible proof lets you immediately see through the illusion.

    Sight Questions

A high mountain can be seen from about 70 miles away in clear weather, assuming normal Earth curvature. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Moon.

Skeleton and Children as playable races.

FFG Grim Tales has child as a playable race. But you need to change Size: Small to Size: one smaller than the base race. I'd drop the racial bonuses on skills; the ones you have left are all keyed to Dex which has a bonus anyway (unless of course you switch to d20 Modern's ability modifiers...

    d20 modern:1st timer-House rules?

You're making a classic newcomer assumption to d20 Modern. The power level of d20 Modern is (intentionally) lower than that in D&D. Yes, few classes have full bab, martial arts are weaker, and casters don't even get their first spell till 4th level. But otoh, this equally applies to all their...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Expediting Combat?

A few houserules I use to speed it up... Iterative attacks are changed. You roll 1d20 for each attack you have, and take the best one. Yes, this does weaken rogues slightly since their best weapon focuses on the much softer flat-footed AC. But it reduces the time spent physically rolling dice...

Post your favorite Critical Hit charts!

I'm working on a critical hit system. The basics of it is this: * As long as you are in positive hp numbers, this rule doesn't come into play. * The "bleeding" rule from core (-1 hp/round while negative, unless someone stabilises you) is no longer in force. (However, certain effects make cause...
