    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

I guess what I meant was that getting casting ability from your race doesn't impact on whether I'd consider a class a caster.

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

I think of rangers and paladins as more martial than caster (as in warriors with a few spells). I don't really think that their spell casting ability tips them more into the spellcaster than the martial side. Same with the artificer, they're an expert 1st then a caster. I don't consider any...

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

I created some wands that did that. They had a 1st level spell and a cantrip. Can't remember if I limited them to spellcasters or not though, but I remember a bard had a wand of storm that they'd use as an offensive boost.

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

I asked chatgpt if it knew what I meant if I said "no boob armour" and it did. Admittedly this isn't plate armour which is notorious for boob armour but still, I think these look pretty cool. Really like the consistency here.

What are you reading in 2025?

I gave up on Foundation, it just didn't get me interested, I'm now going to give at least the first book of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony a go, see how that is.

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

I did once consider making each scroll being created in a specific language. Dragonborn tend to write theirs in draconic, if your elf wizard can't read draconic then they can't use the scroll but the dragonborn barbarian might be able to.

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Keen scimitar or rapier with improved critical gets it down to 12+. One of the things I liked about 3e/4e was that weapons were made to feel different via die sizes, threat range, and crit damage. You could do less base damage but crit more often or crit less but harder. Critting more often was...

D&D 5E (2014) According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D sales are up substantially.

Not all that surprising, they've just recently released the revised version of 5e.

D&D 5E (2014) What If Everyone Could Use Scrolls? (House rule)

I'm allowing something similar in my homebrew, but you do need some training. If you're a fighter who has one of their careers in magician or priest then you can use arcane or divine scrolls. Spellcasters are better at it in that they don't have to roll when using spell scrolls that are on their...

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

This looks more like a human hanging out with a bunch of dwarves; like Snow White if she was more likely to smash your skull in instead of eating an apple.

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

No, you're correct about 5e (unless they removed this option in 2024). Identify is the quick way of determining magical properties, otherwise you learn them with a short rest.

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

I'm fine with short campaigns, I ran one during the lockdowns all those years ago. At least I'd probably consider it one. It was a bunch of the thunder rift modules strung together into a very loose campaign. I would have finished with the party escaping the rift but I think things had gone back...

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

Just a note that you can change hit points from fixed to manual, otherwise (from memory) using long rests and resetting hit points resets the override max HP slot.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

It might be better to go back to 4e and see if those rules can easily be ported into 5e.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Thankfully I don't, I thought you might since you mentioned that you'd just have to have the same argument at the table if your players aren't also reading the forums.
