    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

For me, The Rise of Skywalker was underrated, I really quite enjoyed it after the last jedi which I felt was a let down. Last jedi still had some cool bits, but there were parts of the film that I felt could have been left out.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Like you, I've never managed to complete lord of the rings or the hobbit, Tolkein was such a boring writer. I've watched the movies, though not the hobbit trilogy (could not be arsed watching that as a trilogy).

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

I do something similar rather than defining actual numbers. On rare occasions it somewhat matters like when I ran a mass battle for my group, but actual demographic information I like to use a system taken from Matt Colville and define how likely you are to meet a certain race. He used the...

    D&D General Humanoids...and world demographics

I can't do an actual demographic breakdown because I don't work with real numbers. Races that are dominant are: Human (original humanoid race) Genasi Dragonborn Giants and Giant-kin Elves Dwarves Beastmen (orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, ogres, gnolls) Secondary races are Gnomes Halflings Tiefling*...

    Jurassic Park RPG?

I'm looking forward to the movie. If I was gonna run it as an rpg, I'd just use savage worlds, seems a good fit.

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

This has given me an idea for a fighter only feat, like a fighter version of spell mastery. Pick a number of weapons, any feat which applies to a single weapon additionally applies to all your chosen weapons. So weapon focus (shortbow) and weapon mastery (longsword, shortsword, mace) would apply...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Nothing is wrong with fantasy cowboys, I'm just saying that's what they look like. I've only had limited exposure to cowboys since I'm from NZ so it's entirely possible that there are others that these could appear to be like, but when I saw the pic Mexican was what I thought of.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

This is the pic that I've seen. There may be others but this one really makes me think that the orcs shown are fantasy Mexican cowboys, they even have chaps. It's otherwise a good picture, I think the artist is pretty good.

What are you reading in 2025?

An easier read than Shakespear for sure. Project Gutenberg has been great for some very old books that I otherwise wouldn't have read. I've read a few H.R. Haggard's Allan Quartermain books because of it. I'm glad I did, She was an amazingly good read.

Honestly, you're not the only one who got that vibe from the imagery.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

How do people actually use orcs and drow, goblins and ogres, and other such races in their game? I'm personally not so keen on making orcs a standard player race in my games, in the campaign I ran a while back I specified none of these typically evil races because they were the baddies. I'm...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I loved the orcs in the volo's guide (I think it was that one), from memory there was one that exploded in a pile of goo and disease when it died.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I loved Mario, I watched the trailer and realised that the people complaining were just an "old man shouts at clouds" situation. I also loved the dnd movie, I had a bit more disposable income but if my brother took all his kids to even one of those movies he'd probably go bankrupt. I...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I do wonder if the DnD movie would have done better if released a month later so that it wasn't directly competing with Mario, I feel like people only have so much entertainment money to go around. Perhaps they'd checked online and saw the Negative Nellies talking trash about Mario and thought...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I'm sure someone will, especially if $15 million was gained during the ks. There is probably a good overlap of people that read Sanderson's books and RPG players. Is the game even out? From what I've seen, DnD might be shrinking but a lot of people are playing non-dnd rpgs, this might be one of...

What are you reading in 2025?

I read children of time back when it was released, I found it engaging but didn't actually realise it was going to be the first of a series. I actually felt the ending was perfect and didn't need a sequel, just humanity and spiders working together and heading off into the stars.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

For something as abstract as the planes, I think it's fine to include multiple interpretations, that no one is necessarily correct though some may think that they're correct and as they move through the planes, from what little they can see they may very well have evidence that they are correct...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Considering the sheer size of the planes, I wouldn't be surprised if the world axis and the great wheel are just theories of their structure, it doesn't matter which is true or if neither is true, just pick one for your world beliefs. I mean, how many people can even look at all of creation to...
