EN World What you thought a thread title said.

Haha, I went to find the thread title you were talking about and my immediate thought was "What does he mean, that is the thread title".

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Maybe it could be a fortitude save each time you'd be affected rather than a specialised die roll using the same DC as is needed to remove a negative level. That way it uses a current mechanic and scales with the power of the undead creature.

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Something else I've been thinking of doing, for all old-school wizards not just 3e, is allowing arcane spellcasters who prepare spells to simply refresh those spells each morning after a rest without need of a spellbook. They still need their spellbook to prepare spells and if they want to cast...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

I'd be keeping the skill list and number of skill points, just changing how skill points are spent (though I'd be tempted to give fighters and rangers some more skill points). Prestige classes are what really get affected, though I guess you could say that skill points + class bonus for the...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

You share coffee? Insanity! I've been looking through my old 3e books and, if I run a game, I'm considering using the skill point system of pathfinder. Cross class skills cost 1 point and class skills get a +3 class bonus. Also, INT increases that increase your modifier are retroactive. I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Sounds to me that they just don't want DMs to be constrained by the "official" lore, but those statements are still there, you can use them as the official layout of the planes and the way things work.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Not sure I've already mentioned it, but consider the things in the real world that are verifiable that people (to be fair, small groups of people) don't believe. We all know the world is round, it's been verified, but still plenty of people think it's flat and that's with access to so much...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Truth be told, I think in most games the cosmology is ignored. I'm playing in a couple of games and I have no idea how the planes are set up. For one I'm assuming the wheel, but that's only because it's a 5e game. Until they come up, the only plane that usually matters for the vast majority of...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Yeah, I'm not saying that isn't 4e, I'm just saying that it's been a prison plane since it was made part of dnd.

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

Font choice is important, for sure. I can't remember what it was I never finished reading, I just remember an RPG book where the font was so horrible to read I more or less opened the book and closed it straight after.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

I doubt alignment had much to do with the creation Carceri, it's always been a prison plane where the gods have put the unwanted, that's where you find the titans, for instance. Wanting to keep Tartarus for the imprisoned titans is probably why it exists since early dnd.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

In old 2e (and presumably 3e) the ethereal was filled with adventure locations because that's where all these demi-planes existed. When a wizard really wanted to get away from it all, they created their own little piece of existence in the ethereal. The astral plane was more transitive back then...

D&D 3.x Is there an active 3.0 Community somewhere?

I'm the same with gnomes, I like them as illusionists, artificers, and alchemists in my worlds.

D&D 3.x Is there an active 3.0 Community somewhere?

Reading through the 3.0 players handbook and there were some small changes that may have been easily missed between it and 3.5, like gnomes going from a favoured class of illusionist to bard, which also explains whey the iconic bard became a gnome in 3.5. I'd also forgotten about favoured...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

I love the great wheel and planescape, it'sone of ny favourite settings, but I also like the 4e cosmology, I think largely because the mythology behind it resonates with real world myth. I disagree that the great wheel is unplayable, I find it no different than the 4e cosmology in that respect.

D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

I definitely watched What Now, quite possibly did see the dnd cartoon when it was fresh out.

D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

I'm gonna say no because I would have been 4 or 5 when it was released, I remember watching it in the 80s but it might have been a rerun or maybe it just reached NZ later.

D&D General Players: Do You Care From Whence Your DM Gets His Monsters/Challenges?

I think so long as the DM is good at evaluating monsters, dndwiki can be a good resource. While I agree that much of the design there is bad or overpowered, as a resource for ideas though, I think it's great due to all the content there. I've used it for design ideas on subclasses in the past...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you hear the audible version of the Alarm spell if you are more than 60 feet away?

I'd say, within 60 feet you can hear the alarm clearly, its volume is as loud at one end as the other. Beyond that, the sound starts dropping off, you might still hear it 120 feet away but not quite know what that sound is or where it is coming from, kind of like "did somebody hear something?"

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

I can't recall any examples off the top of my head, but there have been games that I've looked at where I was completely put off by the presentation so never took the time to look more into the system.
