D&D 5E (2024) Fireball Vs Chromatic Orb Late Tier 2 Thoughts.

Overrated since 3e with the increase in monster hit points.

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

I follow the baldurs gate/icewind dale games and allow all warriors to specialise in multiple weapon groups. Mastery or better is typically a fighter only ability (but kits might allow others better capability)

    D&D General Mythos in D&D

My use would probably be a negative amount, I don't really like mythos in my DnD games to the point where someone who wanted to play a GOO warlock was told that there would be no interaction with the old ones and that at best it could be a warlock that followed demons and the fiend warlock could...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I can't remember where I read this, it might have been in a 3e book or dungeon article, but one of the things about the 9 hells was that even though they might be suffering now, the souls want to be there. The enticement of future power and moving up in the fiendish hierarchy is worth a...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I liked it more when it had effects tied to it, I even used it ages ago when running an old thunder rift adventure where anyone who was evil (originally chaotic) would set off a defence in a wizard's sanctum. 3e had various effects such as weapons that dealt more damage to evil or needing a...

    D&D General Mixed Background

Most likely be designing your own background (skills, feats, etc) and then providing a sentence or two rather than a name for the background.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Yes, he means Bruce Heard, looks like an autocorrect mistake. Bruce has some interesting stuff on his website, focused on BECMI edition dnd.

    Intrusive Ads

I've used adblockers for so long, I've kind of forgotten that websites have ads.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

The domain system doesnt really need any changes from memory, it was all d20 roll to perform a regency action against a target number. That makes it easily ported into later editions since it uses the same d20 + modifier vs TN that 3e and later players are familiar with. Ithink if I was going...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

I check every now and then, hopefully it will be fixed at some point.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Yeah, I think that was on the old birthright.net site but I keep getting a timeout when trying to access the site.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Yeah, the abstractness is one of the benefits. I quite like guilds because, like the other holdings, you don't need to define them but it can be fun to. You might say a guild is based on forestry or mining or fishing and it helps define the important industries in your domain which might help in...

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

I've done the same with a thread titled something like "into the borderlands" I kept thinking it might be about a ttrpg version of the borderlands video game series.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

It should be pretty easy to port over to different editions/systems you don't even need to keep the whole divine bloodline if you want to strip it out.

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

And if the players do something that plausibly allows them to bypass those swamp encounters but the DM forces them through them anyway, that seems a good definition of railroading to me.

Thanks for the list, sounds like I have even more books to seek out and read through.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Birthright suggests focusing the action in the area the players are located, but it does have an events table that is rolled on each domain turn to see what, if anything happens. Can't remember how detailed it is and I'm sure birthright DMs would have expanded on it, but there is a system there...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

I've always seen railroading as this is the sequence of events A-B-C. Even if you find a plausible way to bypass B and move on to C, B is going to happen to you anyway.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

I do have that one. I'm mainly interested in 3e era ones for any ideas they might have.
