EN World What you thought a thread title said.

And also here a few years later, and then a year after that, then the 10 year anniversary.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Does anyone know if 3e had anything that dealt with running domains or was that not until pathfinder that something was put together? I know they had the leadership feat which represented gaining followers like in earlier editions and I think there was a book about building strongholds, but I'm...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

The d20 WoWRPG had a kind of similar system for building settlements, I can't remember what the stats were but it levelled up like a character with 4 "classes": civilian, arcane, divine, and military. Each gained different stats and skills and some feats might be easier to get or require with...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

That's a large part of the reason I don't really want to get into a highly detailed domain system, something that players can easily interact with. Like you, I enjoy tinkering with this stuff as a DM, but I wouldn't want it to be too much of a focus during a session as a player. Mind you, as a...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

I did have a look at An echo resounding (turns out I'd added to my drivethruRPG library at some point), I think it was too much for me when I read it a couple weeks back, but that might have been because I was flicking through it too fast trying to quickly grasp it.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Sounds almost like the inspiration for microscope RPG.

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Sure. It's the dungeon world system which is used for settlements (or steadings in dungeon world terms) but I think it can probably be used well enough for a PC's new barony. It uses tags for population, prosperity, and defences which is sort of rated by a number but uses descriptors instead (so...

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

I've not heard of Aria, is it a complex system?

Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

I've been thinking about domain play recently, not because I need to, but because I've started reading through birthright again. There's a few things out there that can be used depending on how much detail you want. The Rules Cyclopedia is fairly detailed using 6 mile hexes, each of which have...

Would ACKS be a good fit to capture the BECMI-feel?

I'd be interested if there is one, I'm not sure anything really exists out there for that bit, though there are other alternatives from other editions, none go into the detail of domain play like the RC or ACKS. I think ACKS might be a little too detail oriented for my tastes, moreso than the RC...

D&D 3.x 3rd Edition Revisited - Better play with the power of hindsight?

I think in pf2e (anyone, feel free to correct me), they've changed it so that you only need 100xp per level, but it is the enclunter difficulty that determines the xp. Meaning a 1st level group fighting some orcs gets the same amount of xp as a 9th level group fighting some giants. I think after...

Quite like the look of it, I might give this one a look when it's released.

D&D General Players Decide when to Level Up

I could happily sit at level 5-6 for ages.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

Sure, but this thread is about how excited are we about the new books. For those of us that aren't, why bother buying them just to change things.

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

You might be thinking of paragon classes. I can't remember if they were base classes or prestige classes but they allowed you to become more dwarfy or more elfy. Pretty sure they were in 3.5, I know they had some in the WoWrpg.

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

In my setting dragonborn can have tails because I don't care of they do or not. They don't have wings, but sorcerers are typically draconic sorcerers as that gets them closer to their draconic forbears and they get wings from that.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

I've gone from a little to not at all (and I might have been very interested when first announced, but I might have already been disappointed with the 5.5 updates by that point). I was interested in the lore to see where they're going with the setting but I've reached the point where I no longer...

Check Out The Mutants & Masterminds 4E Playtest

It seems to be fairly common. I didn't bother with it, not sure what the differences are between 3rd and 4th, but don't want to spend money on a playtest to find out. If I knew it would eventually be the core handbook, maybe, but otherwise, nah.

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

Well, I can't speak for 0e/1e but a lot of the 2e adventures did care about numbers. They'd often have a "For 3-5 players of levels 2-4" or something like that.
