OSR Spell disruption and damage immunity

It's interesting that it isn't taking damage that breaks concentration, magic missile and melf's acid arrow were always great for disrupting enemy mages in the the old crpg games so I assume that was how people were playing it when it came out. I had read about failing saving throws causing...

TSR Having multiple dungeons available to the players

I think having 2 or 3 low level dungeons already on the map is a great idea, single level sort of stuff that should take only 1 or 2 sessions rather than a sprawling mega-dungeon, then you can seed rumours at the local town for the players to explore. The small adventures from the thunder rift...

OSR Spell disruption and damage immunity

Yeah, sort of like a grapple would disrupt the spell. Something I'll need to consider if it comes up. I still need to look around at different editions to see what they say, haven't had a chance yet due to Christmas.

OSR Spell disruption and damage immunity

Just had a thought while making a monster for OSE, I've had a bit of a search but haven't found anything yet that answers this. For games where spells could be interrupted, if a spellcaster is hit but has immunity to the damage, are they still interrupted. Such as a fiend with immunity to...

I think mine would have to Klaus. Only a few years old but that's a great movie.

D&D General How do you use dragons in your game?

I'm gonna pretend it was a pun and therefore written on purpose.

D&D General How do you use dragons in your game?

I'm considering a fantasy victorian error game where, due to a short story/campaign idea I read somewhere, dragons run the banks. They're also the reason the world still uses pence, shillings, and pounds rather than moving to the easier to understand dollars and cents.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Resistance: What was Old is New

Man, I should go back and have another look, I was thinking I'd seen a chart like that somewhere, thought DMG, must have been your chart.

[Fighting Fantasy] Caverns of the Snow Witch

Oh man, I remember that image from way back when I used to read FF. I've sometimes thought about converting them to dnd adventures but it seems like a lot of work.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Resistance: What was Old is New

True, maybe whichever way you go you'll have to sort out exceptions. In some cases you might be able to use a caster level based on an item: uncommon, rare, epic, legendary might be care level 3, 9, 13, and 19 or whatever the minimum caster level needed to cast a spell from it. Otherwise...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Resistance: What was Old is New

I'd probably just run it the same as 1e but using a d20 + caster level to equal or beat the target number as you had originally, seems that has less fluffing about to take into account spells that have no attack or saving throw.

D&D General How do you use dragons in your game?

Dragons exist and are even fairly common; however, the only dragon my players met in the last campaign I ran was a dragon elder (essentially a god) though they weren't able to interact with it, as it was mostly set dressing. I've also reduced my dragons down a bit, I don't have metallic...

Worlds of Design: How Subtle is Your Sorcery?

I typically run it that magical spells that require speaking have some sound to them, but it can be fairly soft and somatic components aren't necessarily exaggerated. A wizard might be able to stand behind a wall unseen and peer around the corner casting a spell against a couple of guards a...

What do you use Chat GPT for?

I've used ChatGPT to help come up with ideas for DnD/RPGs such as subclasses, class abilities, campaign settings, spells, etc. I've also used it to help me write some DAX though I find it is only marginally good at that so I'll instead google my query and see if I can find someone online who...

RPG Books with the Best Art

I like the art (or most of it) in the various transformers RPG books, but I think that's mostly because I'm a transformers fan and it's mostly comic book art so it's already good.
