    Excerpt: Fallcrest

The presence of walls (and various legal privileges to those within them) traditionally defines urban space in the middle ages. 1000 people inside a walled space certainly counts as urban for medieval Europe. As numerous poeple have pointed out, however, we lack the number of people living...

    KotS Winterhaven size? (maybe spoilers?)

As Idra as suggested, that ratio is hugely variable. The overall population figures for the pre-industrial world are that 85%-90% of the population is directly involved in food production (usually farmers). But for a walled city itself, a ratio is 5 in the city for 4 in the countryside could...

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Most of the medieval cities for which I have seen demographics have roughly one church for each 200-300 people. One would assume that the number of religious structures would only increase in a polytheistic society.

    KotS Winterhaven size? (maybe spoilers?)

I don't think we can assume that anything that doesn't comply to 11th rural English demographics is incorrect. Population density figures would look vastly different if you used medieval italy as a model.

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Those numbers may be true as a general pattern, but they certainly aren't universally applicable. If you look at 14th century Florence (which, is a highly urbanized area, but also gives the clearest picture of population figures) the city has a population of roughly 100,000 people (pre plague)...

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

I thought that the +3 we were seeing on the pregen clerics was a result of including the class feature "Healing Lore". Should clerics be getting Healing Lore and an additional stat bonus, or do Warlords get an equivalent ability to healing lore?

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

Or 3) they screwed up. If its a space issue, don't multiclass him; with a standard feat their would be more than enough space for inspiring word. The published information does not support your assertion that is is a choice From the warlord preview "Build Options: Inspiring warlord, tactical...

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

Aid the injured is fine... for a level 2 utility power. It stacks up nicely with the clerics cure. But, yes, without inspiring word, the warlord is no healer. I agree with you on the "major oversight" thing. This is a far more egregious error than what we had on the half-elf.

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

If you multiclass into warlord, the one ability you get is inspiring word. It is THE defining ability of the class. I find it hard to believe that all multiclass warlords get the ability, while half of the actual warlords don't have it.

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

I wish tactical Presence and Tactical Assault had the same range requirement. It seems odd and inelegant to have one based on your LoS and the other based on the LoS of your allies. "Tactical Presence: When an ally you can see spends an action point to make an attack, the ally gains a +2 bonus...

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

The warlord preview listed inspiring word as a class feature, which isn't normally something that you chose.

Tiefling Warlord for KotS + Extra Skill Challenge

What happened to "inspiring word"? Aren't warlords supposed to get healing powers?

    Multiclass Combos

    I have a concept for a Paladin/Warlock that I can't wait to try.

Rogue powers, sneak attack and weapon selection

Another factor in this equation is that 4E involves a lot more movement than previous editions. Because the battlefield is more dynamic, flanking occurs more frequently, at least, it has in the demos which I have run. If a rogue is in a melee heavy party, like the one from the KotS, they...

Rogue powers, sneak attack and weapon selection

Not really. Thalin's original claim was "But the rogue gets more chances to use sneak-attack now. Virtually no-one is immune to sneak-attacks, and it can be used whenever he has combat advantage. LOTS more uses, fewer weapons to use. Not a bad trade-off." The reason sneak attack is better in...

Rogue powers, sneak attack and weapon selection

Think of the percentage of monsters immune to sneak attack in 3.x (oozes, undead, constructs, etc.). I Don't think it is that much easier to gain combat advantage, but, in practice, the rogue will be able to sneak attack his opponents FAR more often in 4th ed,

    Question on the KoS Characters

I didn't think halflings got a racial reflex bonus. +4 Dex, +2 for leather armor, AC = 16 +4 Dex, +2 for Rogue, Reflex = 16 Those numbers look right to me.

How many classes can use ranged weapons effectively?

If you want a character who is an expert with a bow and sneaky, you may be going about it the wrong way. It sounds like you want a Ranger who has access to the thievery skill. He can then sneak, hide in shadows and kill people with a bow.
