    Paizo Paizo Updates Pathfinder/Starfinder Licenses

That fan content change is a fantastic one. Shrewd way to get more eyes on the game and a kindness to creatives trying to eat without getting mauled by lawyers.

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

As has been said location has a big impact. Here in Seattle you can find people for D&D, Pathfinder, and other games pretty easily. There are Meetup groups and Discords to organize games, and the local gaming spots also frequently have good food and drink. It's still work to get a consistent...

Paizo How to Get Started with Pathfinder

As of the recent revision, Pathfinder's books work about the same as D&D's. There are three basic books to get: Player Core, GM Core, and Monster Core. The revision was mostly to de-D&D the game, so while they are updating the rules the older 2nd edition rules still work, so most of the other...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

I think the Gygax playstyle really needed to evolve with the DM as the referee for a game consisting of the Player Side and the Monster Side, with the DM there to handle disputes.

D&D General Should ranger get a companion as its 'signature' feature?

Hunting with a dog, horse, or falcon are all still done today, and can be used in combination, but it's a pretty hefty change to make it a default. Frankly the game should just have feats that can be used to invest in useful pets, partner animals, and mounts with enough options to cover most...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Eh. Balance lets you have more, unless you go full Rifts and just pump out whatever. You can even have balanced-within-category asymmetrical systems. These are choices, not natural requirements.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

PF2E is wildly successful, so enough people do find that balanced systems work.

D&D General Should ranger get a companion as its 'signature' feature?

No. It's an important option but should stay strictly an option.

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

I always find it helpful to be more aware of the flaws in major figures. It helps to remind us that we need to examine our own actions and to always be critical of what we consume. I like to be a better person over time, and this sort of thing helps me catch flaws of my own I may have excused or...

D&D General What Do Tabaxi Look Like in Your Games? (A Poll)

Totally Spies has some examples of human face -> cat features. "Feline Dion" etc.

D&D General What Do Tabaxi Look Like in Your Games? (A Poll)

Thanks to Google being garbage AI now, AI, and anime, the best I can suggest is Catwoman's transformation in the Batman: The Animated Series episode Tyger, Tyger. Edit: Or Cheetah from the Justice League cartoon. Dang Batman is always kissing catgirls.

D&D General What Do Tabaxi Look Like in Your Games? (A Poll)

There's a missing step between 2 and 3/4 where human-like features blend with animal features more. Personally my idea of a tabaxi was set by the 2E Monstrous Manual and the "Jagwar" character from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

2024 ranger is the only one that matters at this point. 2014 ranger was not one of the more popular classes in the DDB results, so it will be interesting to see if that changes.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

I am sincerely happy for them, but I'm only really interested in the larger scale. Few things entirely lack champions, but the statistics are much more informative. I have suspicions that it will be too fiddly due to a mismatch in expectations and reality.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

While the ranger remains a prime example of why I don't find 5E compelling, I am curious to see if people will actually like playing it.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Plenty of non-magical rangers out there. 4E ranger included. Heck, 2E suggested non-magical examples such Robin Hood as ranger templates. The need for magic is just a 5E thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Art inspires art inspires art. The Hunter's Mark is definately video games though. I'm not sure where video games got it but I assume a reference to target painting or smart ammo - so missiles and guns.
