    Is'Merith - Campaign Thread

While Dead-Eye bothers the corpse, Alejandro is trying to figure out whether or not a rope tied to an arrow could be shot across the gap to give everyone a way to cross. Failing that, whether he or Isaac might be thrown...

D&D 5E (2014) CoS: Full of child peril and death, but lacking...

In my campaign, one of the PCs has totally got the hots for Sister Garaele from Phandalin. A new player wanted to come and watch a game, and I suggested he play an otherwise NPC for the night instead, to give him a feel for actually playing D&D. As Sister G was involved in a mission with the...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Victorian-Era, Minimal-Steampunk, Dead Magic, Mainly Roleplaying, Tabletop Game for a friend's girlfriend.

So I guess she trusts that her boyfriend's brother won't corrupt her soul through secret arcane NLP whereas you, an acolyte of the demon Unnatural Twenty, could. What happens if she finds out you prepped him? Maybe you passed on to him the codes. Serious question, the DM switcheroo seems to...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm thinking of giving the half-orc Barbarian an axe that powers up during battle.

More relevant perhaps, what are you giving everybody else to play with? Unless it's a solo adventurer, the other players are going to want their own ridiculously powerful toys, which exponentially increases the irrelevance of pretty much any threat of everyone has something broadly equivalent.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm thinking of giving the half-orc Barbarian an axe that powers up during battle.

All of these are +2 damage for the Rage, using a die with an average of 15.5 to hit (plus proficiency mod+STR so minimum is going to be +4 or +5 even at level 1, making an average to hit of 19.5 or 20.5)... Woah. It's way OP, in this gnoll's opinion.

D&D 5E (2014) First experience with 5th edition and Lost Mines of Phandelver (no spoilers)

I was taking your comments of "I won't be changing any time soon" and how you dislike the simplicity of the system overall as being indicators that you found 5e not to be to your tastes. While you made some positive noises about certain aspects, the overall feeling of your post was "meh - it's...

D&D 5E (2014) First experience with 5th edition and Lost Mines of Phandelver (no spoilers)

It seems a little harsh to judge an entire edition based on one session with an inexperienced DM. I take it the DM and the group were new or newish to you as well. It feels like a perfect setting for confirmation bias to thrive: inexperienced role players around you, inexperienced DM behind...

D&D 5E (2014) Pesky odd stat and decision paralysis.

Well, your ASI of +1 DEX and +1 STR will give you immediate and scalable through Proficiency Bonus improvements to To Hit, plus immediate permanent boost to Damage, and AC. The "spare" point does go begging a little but as you say, may help with carry weights. Putting +2 to DEX gives you the...

    D&D 5E (2014) feeling dissatisfied - need some advice

TL:DR all of the thread but could you have a "God is dead" event? One day the cleric/paladin don't have their prayers answered anymore (not to be completely dickish, they retain their last set of spells prepared, but without any smiting etc). It's not just them. Maybe wizards find their spell...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Reading the MM variants, they feel like NPCs. They have their own motivations, plans, devious plots and/or tolerance for witnessing murderhoboing*. They feel like they should be run by the DM. The familiars (of whatever shape) from the FF spell come over as...equipment. Remote control drones...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Hi So, first, you are coming across as a little incredulous and/or scornful which isn't needed. Secondly, thank you for the errata catch - that is helpful. Thirdly, I'm actually the one seeking an answer - I am 'showing my working' based on RAW from the PHB. Would I like to see warlocks get a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Page 107, Players Handbook, under Pact of the Chain. The PHB also stats out the relevant 'special' familiars (imp, quasit, pseudodragon, sprite) at the back of the book but there is no mention of their magic resistance being transferable to the warlock. The only reason they are listed on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Mike Mearls opinion was that warlock fams don't provide magic resistance according to sageadvice.eu but Jezza is the man so I asked his thought. No response yet.

Our World as a D&D setting

I think it's cool. The cleric/divine caster thing is the only hiccough, but apart from that I think it'd be awesome to play a party fighting the Evil Wizard of Slough, or fighting alongside the Grey Knights of Grimsby. As an aside, read (if you haven't already) Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban.
