D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

Temporary fix until we see more of about dragons: Dragonfear: When you roll initiative against a dragon, you must make a Wis save against a DC equal the dragon's DC or be frightened of it until the end of your next turn. You must make the save again when the dragon uses its breath or score a...

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

Did someone ask Crawford an ''explain me like I'm 5 yo'' on a socials? I'm pretty sure even the designer cant explain the logical procedure of the stealth rules in 3-4 easy to follow steps. After a massive playtest, the best they could get was this convoluted mess?

Am I the only DM who rules like invisibility is actual invisibility as seen in various fantasy medias? Why must it be more complicated then that.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I usually don't use Stealth as a "mode" you enter when you start sneaking. You just use the Hide action and -boom- you are hidden as long as the basic requirement are met. The actual d20 stealth roll is only made against the Passive Perception when you would be spotted. I don't understand the...

D&D General The Resurrection of Mike Mearls Games.

So....I've a game coming up Saturday...any chance the game will be published by then? I fear 5e24 won't be it for me.

D&D General The Resurrection of Mike Mearls Games.

Mr. Mearls, I think the eventual success of your 5e variant will depend entirely on how you write your stealth rules! :p It seems to be the hardest thing to do in a gamebook!

Reading through the posted bullet-point change list...I like what I see. I was unsure...but it works.

D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

for fight against big-ass dragons, I usually add Wings and Tail as their own statblocks with their own HP pool and action allotment (obviously tail has a speed of 0 and wings move the ''main body'' as part of their move). So players can target those parts to remove some attack power to the dragon.

Yeah, I've my fingers crossed to see a general list of lair actions potentially triggered on a reaction by, say, green dragons of every age.

They have +1 legendary resistance and reaction/turn if they are in their lair. A little generic, but cant say its not powerful.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Beyond Article on Crafting

Make it a DC 10 (or whatevs) with every point over the DC being cumulated on to reach a specific progress threshold. You make a progress check each 8 hours spent on the project. Fun fact, the same idea can be used for overland travels or swaying an organization, with different skills and tools.

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

For weapons, instead of having simple vs martial, I'd go with value and rarity instead, with the idea that superior weapons are also harder to use, hence the domain of martially inclined characters. Simple: Club, staff, stone spear, sling, stoneshard dagger, hunter bow, etc Superior; Lacquered...

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

Indeed. Cleric in DnD is a really niche idiosyncratic thing. With all the talk of having too many Arcane casters and all that, I'm personally more in favor of revamping sacred magic and the archetypes using it. I feel as the time passed, druid has become less and less divine, becoming closer to...

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

I think clerics as shrine keeper of regional sacred figure/entity works pretty well in any period or setting, getting powers from the communal sacred beliefs of their clan instead of a intelligent, all-powerful, law-giving divine personage. Paladins are tougher. They rely a lot on...

D&D General There can be only ONE: Bard v. Warlock

Way I see it? Mystic -> Celebrant -> communal magic. So: Cleric, Bard, Druid (without shapeshifting, more Old Ways/Seer) Wizard -> Mystic -> magic of the "self" ego. So: Sage, Psion, Magus (includes shapeshifting and self buffing warrior)

D&D General In Celebration of Over The Top Violence in D&D

In combat, its honestly pretty tame, but that's because I rule that 0 hp for enemies is defeated, not dead, so I cant have too much butchering. My players need to mercy kill enemies at the end if they care to make them dead-dead; at that point violent depiction can be added, at the player's wish.

D&D General What do you prefer to give/get XP for?

A few years back, Mearls tested the 3 pillar XP in a UA and I've been using it. I short, you gather xp (on a 100 points scale) for combat, finding rare items or locations, or coercing a NPC based on your tier. So a finding a Goblin cave at lvl 1 grants you 10% XP, but 0 XP at lvl 5+. It's...
