You've Created A Bad Character. How, why and whose fault is it?

That's a euphemism. I think the game in question was the original Neverwinter Nights.

You've Created A Bad Character. How, why and whose fault is it?

I played one of the 3e era computer games, and made a wizard with one fighter level, and it was absolutely playing the game on easy mode. He was like a mediocre fighter that, when cornered, would simply incinerate every other mamajama in the room. This was before the Eldritch Knight was even a...

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

I would probably go the other way. Morgan le Fay is a sorceress and a drama llama; she could totally just wear a chainmail bikini and I accept that as something she might do. But Red Sonja is a fierce warrior, and in her original depiction was wearing a mail hauberk. The scale mail bikini was an...

Pathfinder 2E The starknife hurts my brain

Say what you will about the batleth, at least, it has the combat readiness of a weaponized coffee table.

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

I mean, Michelle Rodriguez is still conventionally beautiful on many if not most markers. But she's a muscular and brawny woman with a strong face, and even by Hollywood (male) warrior standards Holga isn't depicted in a particularly glamorous way.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

The 3e Forgotten Realms guides said everyone needs to have a deity, or they get sucked into the wall. All clerics, druids, and paladins had deities. But AFAIK that's the only setting in the only edition that ever strictly required it.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

Saying anyone could be a paladin just by swearing something is like saying anyone could be a barbarian by putting on fur shorts and working out. Paladins are exceptional. They don't just decide to be paladins. They have to swear a meaningful oath with sincerity, that reflects something of a...

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

So where do the gods get their power? Rather than clerics needing deities, what if it's deities that actually need clerics to get their powers?

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

It's not just because. It's because they live in a universe where swearing an oath is something the universe pays attention to. That's how you get curses, ghosts, revenants, and ... paladins.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

If miracles can do anything, and all you need to do is believe in yourself, why do we need fighters? Heck, why do we need farmers, why not just pray for food?

D&D General I think the choice of Species / Race / Ancestry has more to do with Story than Rules...

I think it's great if your origin or species or whatever you call it is mostly for background. On the other hand, I would want some traits available for things like having a protective shell, or being able to see in the dark. The gripping hand is, those things don't really, truly have to tied to...

    D&D General The Charisma Conundrum

I think you can just pretend Doug is a badly written, badly acted character in a TV show. Characters still react to his actual Charisma. However, his actions still matter. Just like the fighter's high Strength hardly matters if they don't engage in combat. Effort is expected.

D&D General Does Earth (or at least a fantasy version of it) have a crystal sphere and exist in the D&D Cosmology?

I'm pretty sure it's another "dimension." In the BECMI version of the rules, other dimensions could have different laws and properties, and I'm pretty sure that non-magical Earth qualifies.

D&D General Bob World Builder Recreates WOTC's "Do You Like Me?" Survey!

I wouldn't classify it as "clickbait" because it seems genuinely interesting. He's not trying to trick you into paying attention to something meaningless. He's curious what kinds of results one might see in a survey like that, and he thinks you're curious, too.

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

In older editions, you didn't need a god to access lower level cleric spells. So literally anyone can create a cleric.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

A lot of replacements are more folkloric, so I wouldn't say it's very Talislanta-ish. It is kind of "anime-ish" in that it has kind of a unique cosmology in the background that is definitely not traditional fantasy, but something more story-oriented and flashy. I would say the ghouls in this...

Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

In PF2, you have to parse how each of several layered choices will affect you at ... level 1. A PF2 character at level 1 has about the same number of free choices as a PF1 character at level 3. It's kind of silly to note how many archetypes a PF1 character might have, when every few levels, a...

Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

Oh, I see. Thank you for clearing that up. Which are? And how does someone come by this knowledge? Are you sure? ... which is first level, particularly if you're human. Which is about two to four times as many choices as a PF 1 character generally makes. For instance, a Pathfinder 1e human...
