D&D 5E (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

I've never found this to be a problem. If they're not going to suggest something sensible, they're going to just auto-fail.

D&D 5E (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

I often say 'I want you to roll something for that' and let them try to justify whatever.

I really like this idea! Spend Int for flashback scenes, as you set something up already, expecting just this situation!

I think that was done just so casters can feel confident there will always be that one weak save, so they can end an encounter once they try enough spells.

Full plate's 1 AC over the others isn't going to feel meaningful when your big warrior is on their back all the time. STR weapons have weapon mastery variety, which is very nice to have in your back pocket. I wish there was a mechanized way to model BG3 jumping being a big deal.

STR saves basically vanished now that they made monsters automatically inflict knocked down on hit... Entangle is the big spell it helps with, the others are Arms of Hadar and Evard, I guess.

True. Rogue is the friendliest to pick your own main stat class, for what that's worth.

So, Rogue is in the unique position that, as most of their damage can be carried on just one attack, they can attack with... Str (only helps grapple and jumping, would need at least medium armor from somewhere) Dex (good for everything) Int (True Strike seems valid, opens up Keen Mind /...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

This is the bit I'm the most curious to see play out in action. Fighter doesn't need to spend resources until they see it's a failure. And he has multiple Second Winds, which come back with short rests.

Only in A playtest, then they hurriedly put it back.

If anything, if we wanted to discourage dump stats, then the penalty would need to go up... 'are you sure about that 8? You'll have -2 just to save 2 point-buy points' kind of a deal.

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

Fair, Rogues can be at 3 attacks with it (but need to get TWF style to make it worthwhile, so cannot remain pure). Much as I slam Rogue (not just for being weak, but for being so flowchart-y to play, with no resources to manage, that you as the player aren't really needed), the new Thief...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

Each of those hits multiplies any feat/magic item plus/temporary buff/etc the Fighter has going on. Rogue's only way of boosting sneak attack is by getting more attacks in off-turn, which is a step harder to do than Fighter just existing. EDIT: okay, Piercer technically exists

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

I wouldn't go that far, because it's the same Rogue as in 2014, except Nick/Vex makes them land their sneak attack more reliably (and Thief can get absolutely busted if they have access to certain magic items). So it'll still fall behind in damage (even more if you use Cunning Strikes), unless...

    D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Channel Divinity Question

None of the 'regain on Short Rest' features seem to be limit how many you can get back, and short rests are defined as just taking an hour... so yeah, each hour of chilling returns one usage.

    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

Yes, but the other casters' spell list isn't 90% concentration spells only. Let me just Zeph... oh. Let me just Ensnaring... oh never mind. 2024 at least made archers have something they could spend their slots on with Hail of Thorns becoming concentration-free (and no, it's not a great...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

Yep. Same as in 2014, where people were loving Booming Blade for Rogues - these are a Magic action to cast, so you cannot combine them with bonus action attacks (or Nick or Dual-Wielder in 2024). You may hit harder once, but you're putting a lot of hopes into that one shot. The least it can do...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

I like anything that gives alternative power stat options to classes. Int is doing so much less than Dexterity in every other way, that a little bit of extra dmg is the least they deserve. (of note is that True Strike is, for once, a spell that does not require Verbal components, so you can...

I really like this. Then we fuse Con with Str, and boom, much easier to silo things (and saves!).

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

And usually you only need one person to handle that entire pillar, while the rest of the party are mute. Sure, that's not how it usually ends up playing out, just because players rarely want to be quiet in the corner like that, but that is the optimal play the rules encourage. 'I know trying to...
