    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

And in older editions, common was just 'me trade this' rough way for everyone to conduct some sort of business, but you wanted the real languages to actually be, you know, proficient in speaking. Now it's just english. Which, as all scifi shows have taught us, is universally known.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Polearms have other benefits over Rogue shortswords, and people using them don't tend to have other turn-to-turn bonus actions available to them. It's not that Rogue couldn't use a reduced chance to miss out on their sneak attack completely - it's about the opportunity cost of it taking a feat...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

Yeah... I was not surprised they dropped them, because cannot make things too scary! Here's things back to 3e, just the way everyone likes it. While, my belief in the DnD world would be a lot easier to maintain if you started with, say, 20-30hp and added a few hp on level up, rather than start...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Oh, nice. I had been considering automating it based on the attack roll being odd/even, but that's much smoother (as you always know the total anyways, so there's no new thing added).

Oh damn, I forgot about Goliaths! Grow Large, you're not even slowed down by grappling a Small target, even without Grappler feat. And you're wicked fast, too. Now we're cooking.

Hmm. Good questions. We should probably stick to just grabbing halflings and punching stuff with them to be on the safe side.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

When you attack, you can push the target prone (and still benefit from the prone for the rest of your attacks). Okay, it only takes place after you've hit with an attack now, but in exchange it doesn't cost you a bonus action any more. And, to benefit from Prone, you need more attacks. This...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

At least Shield Master now explicitly does what 2014 text said it could do all along, until someone started tweet-nerfing things... Oh yeah, Protection doesn't suck now (shield only, disadv to all attacks against a target for the round), but... It's still not a primary pick. I think it just...

And this is how I learned that Minotaur doesn't have a proficiency in Con saves.

That sounds cool! I basically went with 'guys, Beyond's handling of short rest hitdice healing is stupid, we're just switching over to BG3 short rests'. So basically instant short rests, heal half your health, two per long rest (rest as a party, don't be difficult).

You might be able to use your grapplee as an improvised melee weapon for your bonus action attack! As holding them only takes one hand.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Dual-Wielder bonus attack needs to be made with a melee weapon. But that means you can use it to throw a dagger/trident.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

It's an extra attack, so you're less likely to miss out on your Sneak Attack completely, but... you already have stuff to do with your bonus action, the minor increase is not worth it.

With the caveat that TWF takes two weapons, which becomes an issue when you start getting magic weapons. (and yeah, the whole damn RAW can use a shield with it thing)

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Pretty good pick. That could be worked around - 'any resources you would have gained from X Rest, multiply by Y instead when you take the Only Rest That Remains, anything in an adventure that triggers on a short rest triggers after an hour instead' - but yeah, that'd be a hassle.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogues and Items

Don't you often set a bear trap in a second? And perhaps their lockpicking is of the slap it the right away and it opens school of lockpicking. When anyone can first-aid someone else's armored body in 6 seconds (while also moving 30ft), or jump onto their face from a tall tower without any real...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Could you give examples of fixes/test things that wouldn't be backwards compatible? As the numbers are the same, the core mechanics are the same, even big stuff like Arcane/Divine/Primal spell list split could get handled with a footnote saying 'if old stuff refers to Wizard spell lists, just...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

I cannot give WotC money after the OGL/Pinkerton one-two. I previously entertained the notion of signing up for Beyond once their VTT gets going, but not after that.
