as long as I can get my arcane ward (and my better counterspell rolls) I'm okay with it.

I'm hoping for illusionist, abjurer and necromancer (not my cup of tea but it's a very popular concept) to exist in some way. Arcane Ward is one of my favourite class abilities.

Them calling it "the evoker" instead of "evocation school" gives me a little hope that not all of them will be based on the schools, and we can see a bladesinger soon.

I think the main reason they are droping pact magic is that they are moving away from major class features being short rest dependant.

because I presume they'd want to touch on a lot of the concepts that are in the PHB first. If they don't do a big "adapting all the popular old subclasses" book, I'd expect that the first few new books to cover the 2014 PHB options first.
