    D&D 5E (2014) How crunchy is D&D 5E

    I voted 5. By comparison, I would put 3.5E at 7.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you make a campaign that focuses on PCs finding and using new spells?

Yes, I like that. Perhaps the wizard's college could act as a patron for the party.
  4. Ogre Mage

D&D 5E (2014) How do you determine your initial Attributes?

27-30 point buy is the most common method. The other 5e games used 4d6 (drop lowest die) arranged to taste. However, if the stats turned out terrible he allowed us to use 25 point buy as a safety net.

D&D 5E (2014) What would be the most fun "All ____" Party?

I think an all-proficient in stealth party would be fun. We would be a shadowy strike force that enters undetected, attacks from surprise and disappears into the night.

D&D 5E (2014) What would your 5 PC party be?

Twilight Cleric (support, carries an amulet of the devout which gives more uses of twilight sanctuary) Shepherd Druid (outlander background for exploration, summons can benefit from twilight sanctuary) Watchers Paladin (tank, party face) Clockwork Soul Sorcerer 5 / Hexblade 2 (sorlock blaster...

D&D General Why is tradition (in D&D) important to you? [+]

Sudden, drastic change is jarring and uncomfortable. People have to immediately adjust to major changes and not everyone can. At the risk of starting the edition wars that is one reason why some past editions were poorly received. That said, I do not subscribe to the notion that the D&D of...

Critical Role Critical Role Campaign 3 Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, now that Episode 3 has aired we can discuss the spoiled event. I never thought Bertrand Bell was Travis's real character because he was Level 5 while everyone else was Level 3. But I wasn't sure how he would be written out. I can see why Matt chose the death route -- it will likely act...

D&D 5E (2014) What are your (up to) three favorite character classes?

It's fine if you have less than three favorites in the poll. That is why it says "up to." I only voted for two: cleric and wizard.

D&D 5E (2014) What are your (up to) three favorite character classes?

A month ago I ran a poll on people's LEAST favorite character classes. The monk had the dishonor of winning the poll with 29.7% of the vote. In second place was the artificer with 27% and third was the sorcerer with 23.6%. So now I'd like to look at people's favorite classes. This also was...

Critical Role Critical Role Campaign 3 Discussion (SPOILERS)

We learned considerably more about Laudna in Ep2, who is developing into my favorite PC this season. --She was a young woman living in Whitestone when the de Rolos were overthrown. --By the time Percy reclaimed Whitestone she had already left. --She named her dead rat after the de Rolos. At...

Critical Role Critical Role Campaign 3 Discussion (SPOILERS)

On Reddit someone who also saw Exandria Unlimited said Fearne seems like a BBEG (Big Bad Evil Gal) in her early formative years.

D&D General How Long Did You Play the Different Editions of D&D? (+)

    1E: 1986-1989 2E: 1993-94, 1998-1999 3E: 2001-2006 4E: 2012-2013 5E: 2015-present

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think of Fizban's races, subclasses feats and spells?

I quite like the summon draconic spirit spell.

D&D General Lorraine Williams: Is it Time for a Reevaluation?

I attended a gaming con for the first time in 2009 and there were definite hygiene problems. At one con I went to in the early 2010's they provided "hygiene cards" which you could give to anyone who had offensive body/breath odor. The last con I attended was Gamestorm in March 2019. I did...

D&D General Lorraine Williams: Is it Time for a Reevaluation?

Yeah, I never understood that line of thinking either. Granted, Willliams bears significant responsibility for the destruction of TSR. But at the time of sale, TSR was bankrupt. What was the alternative? Let D&D die and fade away into a nostalgia game? It seems to ignore the fact that at...

D&D General Lorraine Williams: Is it Time for a Reevaluation?

Maybe not a direct competitor for TTRPGs, but there was definitely competition. There was a reason why TSR released its Spellfire CCG in the 1990s. I submit this was an attempt to compete with Magic The Gathering. Of course, Spellfire (and Dragon Dice) were commercial failures and factors in...

D&D General Lorraine Williams: Is it Time for a Reevaluation?

The fact she has remained silent for 20+ years is an interesting point. Perhaps she felt so ashamed about the TSR ship going down on her watch and being forced to sell to TSR's biggest competitor (WoTC) that she wanted to bury everything that happened. The past is too painful to dredge up...

D&D General Lorraine Williams: Is it Time for a Reevaluation?

This debate makes me think it would be fun to see the D&D biopic movie from two distinct perspectives. Part of the movie could be from Gary Gygax's perspective as he designs a groundbreaking game. Lorraine Williams is portrayed as the primary antagonist -- a ruthless corporate raider. Another...
