    D&D 4E The WotC designers will be bashing 4e once 5e is announced . . .

Yeah, it felt that way. I should be ready for 4e, then!

    D&D 4E The WotC designers will be bashing 4e once 5e is announced . . .

If anything about 4e has given me pause, it's this issue. I don't like the idea of returning to the old way of monster design. But I'm willing to wait and actually see if the change is as great as many seem to think before I make a decision.

    D&D 4E The WotC designers will be bashing 4e once 5e is announced . . .

I'd like to know where all these "Pokemount" supporters were whenever I posted about how I liked them, and felt they emulated old tales of knights, stuff like Baron Munchausen, or even the Lone Ranger. Because I certainly seemed to be the only one with anything positive to say about the subject.

Quietly Back to the Past (in spirit)?

It's definitely cool, and definitely has that "points of light" thing going on. But so did early Greyhawk. Take Expedition to the Barrier Peaks as an example. The rather brief set-up describes the PCs making it to a baron's castle, the only point of civilization for miles around. Something about...

    Monster Templates

Along those lines, what about monster advancement has been said, if anything? Has anyone let slip whether monsters can still be advanced via class levels?

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

I don't think his post was all that bad, either. However, I do think the last paragraph of your post is spot-on.

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Depends on what you consider a "useful pursuit." I consider getting together with friends and playing a game to be a very useful pursuit in and of itself. I don't need to somehow experience realism in the game I play with them, be it Monopoly or Life or D&D. All I'm interested in is a good time...

D&D 4E Mearls on 4E being computer game: "It's more like online poker."

I haven't gotten that impression at all. Any direct quotes, especially about the errata? I'd be extremely surprised if the errata wasn't posted for free.

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

I dunno. Back when I first started playing D&D in the late 70s, I was struck by its realism in modeling my life. Kinda turned me off of it for a short time. I mean, in my daily life I have to fight trolls on my way to the outhouse the elves built; why would I wanna do it in a game?

D&D 4E Mearls on 4E being computer game: "It's more like online poker."

So you have no friends scattered around the country, or who live at least far enough away that they can't make a session on a regular basis? Playing online with strangers isn't the draw for me; it's the possibility of gaming with guys I gamed with 25+ years ago who live 2500 miles away.

    Jeff Ranger (Teflon Billy) Salute!

I debated on that scene or the General-Zod-in-the-Negative-Zone "You will bow down before me, Jor-El. I swear it, no matter that it takes an eternity! You will bow down before me! Both you and then one day your heirs!" type of rant. You were, and are, a helluva judge TB. Your day will come...

    Jeff Ranger (Teflon Billy) Salute!

Deep within his Pacific Northwest stronghold, Teflon Billy broods, contemplating his return to power. "Let Dangergirl and the rest enjoy their moment in the sun. It will only make my return all the more sweet as I watch the shock and fear upon their faces. 2008 may be yours, Dangergirl, but...

    Email received here, too.

    Dungeon, Dragon free until 2008?

That's a good point. Nobody is forcing one to look at, buy, or use any remake or update. I've never understood the objections to stuff like that.

    Dungeon, Dragon free until 2008?

S4 (with WG4 to beef it up) is one of my favorite modules. Mostly due to the sheer potential of it, rather than what is actually there. The "hacked" version for HackMaster made it hang together a bit better, but I welcome a revamp for current D&D.

    D&D 4E New Races in 4e

Agreed. I'd love to see the goliaths make it into core, but I'm not very optimistic about it actually happening.

    D&D 4E Race Matters more in 4e?

Maybe they did, or will (as you yourself note). We don't know everything elves will have, just what they'll have in regards to direct physical combat.

    PHB, MM, DMG covers

I like the logo. Looks clean, simple and emphasizes the abbreviation of the name. I really like the notion of having pictures on the covers. I especially love that they got WAR to do them.

4th Edition and the Immortals Handbook

But...Gary has spoken often in recent years about how he prefers rules-light games and feels 3e was too complex. There is a dichotomy in what you're saying.
