D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

It sounds like they’re going back to the version we’ve already tested since 2014 though. At least per the summaries of the video. Guess we’ll find out later today

D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

So we’re back to paladins hoarding spell slots for Critical Smites? And uber sneak attacks on a Crit? That’s… unfortunate

D&D 5E (2024) When are we getting the second playtest document?

That's likely true, but the pool of tweaks had to come from somewhere. It's not like WotC hasn't been observing actual games, reading forums, and getting feedback from previous UAs. The changes they're offering for review didn't form in a vacuum.

D&D 5E (2024) When are we getting the second playtest document?

Where are you getting that they don't care about opinions? Any individual opinion will be taken into consideration with a whole bunch of other people's opinions. Not all opinions will agree with each other, so by necessity, there are some that won't result in changes. Doesn't mean they "don't...

D&D 5E (2024) When are we getting the second playtest document?

With at least a dozen UAs coming out, I’m thinking we may not get all the classes at once, but maybe a couple per doc, with subclasses. And some may not be included because they will have small to no changes. It’s possible they may add a few new subclasses, or make some of those from existing...

    Best/Favorite Thin RPG Core Book

The current edition of Savage Worlds clocks in at around 200 pages, but it's also a digest-sized book, and might be closer to 100 pages if it were a similar size and layout to a D&D book. So, does it qualify? My two current favorites that definitely would qualify are Mork Borg and Death in...

D&D 5E (2024) After my players tried to break it, we discovered that the new half-race rules are hilarious and terrible.

I think it’s quite the opposite. If anything, it’s all the previous editions (or really, any RPG with distinct humanoid species capable of interbreeding) that treat half races as “wizard experiments or mutants”. You have either a set list of “creatures born of these two races always have these...

D&D 5E (2024) After my players tried to break it, we discovered that the new half-race rules are hilarious and terrible.

I believe the min-maxing comment was in response to the idea of actually allowing the swapping of specific traits from the parent races (even if it’s just losing trait X and gaining trait Y, where X and Y are the only traits allowed to be swapped). I personally like the idea, but could see...

D&D 5E (2024) How should multiclassing be implemented for ODnD?

I’m currently playing a sorlock, and I like to make sure the multi-classing game mechanics are supported by the story. I told the GM the broad strokes of what I wanted for my character journey. My PC would start as a Shadow sorcerer, who’s power came from a failed ritual where he was to be...

D&D 5E (2024) How should multiclassing be implemented for ODnD?

5E wasn't built with the same ...umm... precision of class features as 4E, so feats just swapping features, or "half-class" lists really can't work the same way. That said, I'm fine with 5E's approach. I think the addition of class-independent Proficiency Bonus was brilliant, and spell-casting...

    D&D 5E (2024) Jumping

    1) Up to GM. Per Jeremy Crawford, there is no official rule that you can voluntarily fail a Saving Throw, but he's okay with it. Gust of Wind definitely seems like a spell that should allow you to "go with the flow". The spell also causes "forced movement"... e.g., some outside force is moving...

    Illiteracy and shamanism

You're developing your own system though, correct? I think here is fine if you're applying to that

    Illiteracy and shamanism

This might be getting too much into personal belief systems that may not be appropriate for the forums. My own views definitely conflict with the idea of a vague, undefinable "energy" often touted by other real world beliefs/religions. I recommend staying with fantasy versions of the Shaman in...

D&D 5E (2024) Put initial stat bonus in class not background

I thought this thread was about adding the bonus to Class vs. Background? The dead horse of "Keep it as part of Race" has been beaten so thoroughly in other threads it's just pâté now. And you know what? IT'S NOT HAPPENING. Move on. The Class vs. Background (vs. other options, like...

D&D 5E (2024) Jumping ahead: Bring back Bloodied for monsters

We know the design team is already looking at beefing up monsters, so they reflect their CR more accurately. I didn't pick up Monsters of the Multiverse, for fear I'd be buying those critters a third time with the 2024 books come out. I know presentation changes to make creatures easier to...

D&D 5E (2024) Tweak to new Critical Hit rule

The UA Critical Hit changes limit doubling of damage to just weapon dice. Lots of impacts to the game for this, including no x4 Nova damage for a Grave Cleric/Rouge Assassin, no more paladin crit-fishing for maximum Smites, and no crits for spells (possibly opening up some design options for...

D&D 5E (2014) Where did Open Locks and Remove Traps go?

Didn't realize this was a necro'd thread when I saw the notification and expected this to be about the Critical Hits nerf, where Sneak Attack dice are no longer doubled. So I'll just pretend that's the case 😁 I think the Critical Hit change for Rogues will be offset by the Inspiration changes...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Why don't they just make a list?

That’s a bit harsh and presumptuous, though yeah, clarification of what “idea” shouldn’t exist is probably warranted

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

Yeah, I'm currently playing a Shadow Sorcerer, and there are so few thematically appropriate spells. When Tasha's new summon spells came out, thankfully my DM let me take the Summon ShadowSpawn spell for my character, though it wasn't added to the Sorcerer list. Again, I wonder how many spells...
