    Illiteracy and shamanism

The Tao of Physics was a popular book many years ago, and movies such as What the Bleep to I Know try to merge spiritualism with physics. Naively, at best, IMO.

What props and special effects do you use while running games?

All I need is a Wilhelm Scream sound effect, and I'm good

Tolerance, as an opposite from Fanatism

Historically, many very smart people were also very intolerant. I mean, lack of education and/or lesser cultural exposure to the world at large can definitely be contributing factors to one's intolerance, but it's not an absolute.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC is right to avoid the word "edition."

And I guess that's where the problem lies. Are we talking about "normal publishing parlance" or regarding changes in base rule sets?

D&D 5E (2024) WotC is right to avoid the word "edition."

[You quoted me before I finished my post. My cat literally stepped on the keyboard and submitted before I was ready 😂] Would you call reprints of a book that contains errata a new edition then?

D&D 5E (2024) WotC is right to avoid the word "edition."

But it's not an entirely new set of rules, just modifications of an existing one, with the intention of backwards compatibility. 3E, 4E and 5E were entirely new sets of rules compared to their predecessors. So, should the term "edition" be equally applied to those instances as well as the final...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Why don't they just make a list?

Or even a keyword indicating a trait is "swappable" for a mixed-race character, and a short paragraph explaining the mechanic. Swappable traits should be about the same power level, roughly equal to a feat. You might even have more than one Inheritable trait for some races. Personally, I'd make...

D&D 5E (2024) Can we have the sorcerer fixed now? (Plz, I beg you n_n°)

The shared Arcane spell list might address a few issues for the sorcerer, namely lack of utility spells and spell variety. Seriously, Twinned Spell is great, but there aren't a whole lot of single target spells for the sorcerer to choose from. I'm tired of spamming Chromatic Orb with Twinned...

    D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration change to reroll

I think a lot of people house rule it that way for the reasons you mentioned. And if they’re going to change Auto-success and failure based on “how everyone is already doing it”, then I think that’s a solid case for changing Inspiration as well. However, it would remove the fact that...

    D&D 5E (2024) Power Source Spell Lists

Per the video, sounds like each class will have some spells in addition to those on their "primary" list. Now, I thought that might mean just spells unique to each class, like only Warlocks would have Eldritch Blast, but it could also mean adding a few spells from a different primary list. So...

    D&D 5E (2024) Jumping

I'd be interested in knowing what games do handle taking 100% of your movement allowance, then adding in jumping distance on top of that. Because I'd end every move in a jump in those games.

D&D 5E (2024) Racial options without built in spells

I think some overt magical abilities, especially ones based on actual spell descriptions, might be harder to refluff than others. Flame bolt and misty step, for examples.

    D&D 5E (2024) Jumping

What do Medium and Hard mean in this context? Do they correspond to DC descriptions of Moderate (DC 15) and Hard (DC 20)? Here's a simple take: Character makes an Athletics check. What you roll is how far you jumped in feet, minimum equal to STR, maximum of STR x 2. Halve, third or triple...

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

Exactly. But as Mistwell points out, that approach can be problematic when searching for things like secret doors and traps. The PHB mentions using Passive Checks, but also has a sidebar dedicated to Finding Hidden Things, where it says the player makes the Perception check, based on the...

D&D 5E (2024) Racial options without built in spells

Some of them, but one could argue they were there in 3E as well, then. 4E made powers much more rigorously structured and codified in a way that 5E only lightly does (but more than 3E). I see moving more Arbitrary Number/Day abilities to be Proficiency Bonus/Day is also probably another step in...

D&D 5E (2024) Racial options without built in spells

I think the more accurate phrasing for 4E would be "make everything a power", which include spells and class abilities.

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

How about this: if players "attack a chair" so they could make an attack roll, and get a 20, would you give Inspiration? If they constantly swat at ordinary flies with their sword, how about then? Bag of rats scenarios? No, they shouldn't, because these are inconsequential actions, so don't...

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

IMO, checking for traps or secret doors is something the DM should roll for the players anyway. How can you know you failed to find something which may or may not be there in the first place? And if the DM is rolling, no one gets Inspiration for Nat 20's.
