Finally! Someone's proposing a practical solution.

Talia and Koby The tracks criss-cross one another all over the courtyard of the keep, though it doesn't take any special talents to distinguish two particularly well-trodden routes. One heads toward the well, while the other heads off in the direction of the south-east tower, ending in a solid...

    Dice Questions?

If you mean, 'where it came from' as in 'who invented them?' it was Lou Zocchi. His company, GameScience, makes funny dice still if you need some. Goodman Games (publishers of DCC) sell their own of course. Mine are from Impact Miniatures, as those are the ones my local shop stocks.

    Map of the New Forest

Some oceanic islands have only been populated for a few centuries. Perhaps Aeson lives on St Helena? OP map would only need a few small changes to work for a DnD campaign. Especially if your players are not familiar with the south of England.

D&D General DM's: How transparent are you with game mechanics "in world?"

That doesn't require any secrecy, though. Player: How can there be a lava river here without the monsters all suffocating? DM: Because lava rivers are cool. The mechanic is revealed as DM fiat; the players know not to waste their time figuring out how to manipulate the clever combination of...

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

I'm guessing Justin won't mind his halflings helping with the gate, as I believe he's still away this week. Please try and stick to the 'at least one post per three days' rule - otherwise these PbP games can move extremely slowly.

Talia and Yolo Checking carefully around the walls, there doesn't seem to be any driect entry into the gatehouse at all. It's connected to the wall of the keep, so the only access must be inside. The only door visible into the walls of the keep is that on the south-east tower. It's also...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

While 'boar' is most commonly used nowadays to distinguish wild pigs from domesticated varieties, the older sense of the term referred to male pigs, female pigs being sow (though it would be more accurate to say 'male and female swine', as 'pig' formerly referred exclusively to young swine, just...

D&D 5E (2014) In defense of my post....

I used to think this way, and I've never really beena user of overt safety tools beyond a bunch of current warnings at Session zero. But I think there are reasons to be cautious even with close friends. It's easy to assume that everyone's having a good time and that they all understand the type...

D&D General Critical Role: Overrated, Underrated, or Goldilocks?

To give the alternative opinion, I found the earliest episodes the most enjoyable, precisely because it was less polished. It felt a little more intimate, in a way. In fairness my opinion is based on having only watched about a third of the first campaign. I struggle to comprehend how anyone...

D&D General DM's: How transparent are you with game mechanics "in world?"

I have all my player's ACs written down on a piece of paper in front of me, but still think it's good practice to tell them the to hit roll rather than just assuming I hit if I beat the AC. It can be easy to forget that Markon can use his reaction to increase his AC by his proficiency bonus.

D&D General DM's: How transparent are you with game mechanics "in world?"

I've never had to deal with a player like the OP's, but I've recently started becoming more transparent anyway, for several reasons. Partly, because I do sometimes screwup when I'm running a big complex battle with multiple NPCs, and my table's rules lawyer knows the rules better than I do. If...

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Continuing my plan of clarifying the rules as we play; Garwen's struggling with the gate because elves hate the touch of cold iron. Trying to open a gate like this has no mechanical impact, he just feels uncomfortable. But if an elf tries wearing or carrying metal items around with them all the...

    In Defence of Chickens [IC]

Tugging at the bars a few times, it's clear to Garwen that he could never manage to lift this alone. He's forced to give in as his skin begins to crawl at the touch of solid iron.

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Everyone give yourselves 1 more XP for not being impaled beneath a portcullis. What do you all want to do?

    In Defence of Chickens [IC]

Your whole group cautiously heads forward, ducking under the old, rusty portcullis (or, in the case of the halflings, simply strolling beneath). Bringing up the rear, Edelgard, Garwen and Prinx are the last to step through. As soon as they duck beneath the iron bars, you each hear a snarl and a...
