D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer class improvement house rule

I agree with the statement of the problem... I agree that while one can build an effective blaster or such using very limited expectations, most others dont have enough spells. As a patch to the sorc, these options seem fine though I am a bit off on the division of sorc points then giving out...

D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Blast and Repelling Blast - One time or Each Hit?

Just a few comments. First, along the way someone discussed using EB to move obstacles... it can only target creatures. Second, by the time we make it past 5th level or so, maybe before then, the visbility of the single large brute starting at range in open closing with party scenario is well...

Pathfinder 2E Balancing encounters (and converting stuff from other editions)

"PF2 is NOTHING like this. It's still early days, but if anything it points to a game where GMs can't afford to be casual in their prep work: either make the encounter real easy or risk halting or stopping the story." All in all this seems consistent with the idea that PF2 is really built to...

Do you have any class? The class discussion thread (Paladins and Warlocks and Clerics, OH MY!!

Hey, if not for the legacy draw of paladin class... I would call it champion class and kind of do the sub-classes based on which "lord" you served. Think of it as the martial equivalent of sorcerer with palading being the champion of some holy faith.

D&D General Holding non-Paladins to their class vows

In my games, there us a cire house rule that applies to paladins, warlocks, clerics, druids (to varying degrees) and even to certain backgrounds for other classes. It covers that the GM and player just come to agreement about the details and particulars of these bonds and obligations and...

D&D 5E (2014) Help a Paladin out Bro. AKA rewarding Paladins.

First, whatever partnerdhip, family or organization paladins, clerics, warlocks, druids plays a role in the gsme and thst brings with it a more reliable access to friendly dispositions npcs. Second, spdcif8c acts get noticed by others and reactions go accordingly especially if the " ordrr" is...

Pathfinder 2E Balancing encounters (and converting stuff from other editions)

Well, to me I take a different approach. While the OP may be right, and I suspect so as a default scoring that makes even equate to high risk will lead to more chances of crisis endings, I feel any system can let you provide eady or risky engagements - deliberate or by accidrnt. BUT... I...

Do you have any class? The class discussion thread (Paladins and Warlocks and Clerics, OH MY!!

To me that really depended. Same kinds of experience, Traveller was right there beside AD&D as my formative initial RPGs with HERO coming right along a bit later. I did not experience the bland and generic in Traveller bdcsuse their life path or military career development roll-thru encouraged...

D&D General Positive Stories of Faith from Your Campaigns

So, in light of multiple threads about the many ways paladin code traps see play, I want to ask for the opposite. Tell us about any times you had a player date to play a paladin with a code, a cleric or druid of a faith to a given divine or church, a warlock with a Patron or any character with...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin oath. What constitutes willingly breaking your oath/code?

See, to me this is the thing I get rankled over with what I see as a rather antiquated or overly limited GMing approach. To me, as GM, I see characters with faith and devotions and willingness to be part of something bigger as opportunities to spotlight those - as good things. I do not have to...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin just committed murder - what should happen next?

IMO a good example of this in practice was the Buffy series - monsters as metaphor for all the various dangers, sins and woes of high school and later college. Meanwhile as an anecdote, in my last supers game, one player played a weather wizard who supported himself with a few NDA contracts...

    D&D 5E (2014) Devotion Paladin Optimized

One thing I would look at is how well does the role fit the oath? Mechanically one can optimize for any role but if you then get pulled out of role by demands of your oath, that becomes a counter-productive pairing.

Do you have any class? The class discussion thread (Paladins and Warlocks and Clerics, OH MY!!

I would say this is in my experience separate from the roll/role aspect. I can be and have seen fantastic role playing out of those who take a class way outside its fluff and lousy role playing by someone who stayed in it. Being a "traditional" dwarven fighter or something wau outside thst can...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin just committed murder - what should happen next?

It was described as the result of a strong persuasion, so, the implication is a relatively high DX and while that could be imagined that it have been a strong roll vs an easy check... no specifics were provided that would imply it was easy or moderate. The statement also shows the GM chose to...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin just committed murder - what should happen next?

To me, it comes down to the power balance. In 5e core rules as opposed to reality the GM *is * directing thecrest of the world and the player is directing the character. Unless either is using some ability such as dominate or TK etc, those are solid divisions. IRL while how you react or feel...

D&D General Character Backstory System That Works

Awww c'mon... Dead in chargen was fun. That sense of drama, taking risks and building your attraction to "this guy" was fun.

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin just committed murder - what should happen next?

No I understood you. You basically use overwhelming as we cannot expect beat it in one way... but we can actually beat it if we use other ways. Compared to the paladin vs adult dragon, the combat option seems off the table. However, the social attack is one that had already been tried and took...
