D&D General Time to divide loot, treasure, items….

We use the same method as most other people on this thread - divide the gold equally, magic items go to whoever wants them (with the "most useful" being the tiebreaker if more than one person wants it; the wizard is only getting an amulet of natural armour once everybody else already has one)...

I'm beginning to dislike Netflix (re: Archive 81, 1899, Warrior Nun etc cancellations)

I friend of mine came across Name of the Wind last year. He was really enjoying it, and mentioned how much he was looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy as well ...

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

Pathfinder 1st edition re-organised the D&D 3.5 stat blocks because they felt they could be improved. They can certainly be improved again - in an ideal world I'd re-format the feats section so feats whose effects are already included in the stat block (like Improved Initiative) are "greyed...

    D&D 5E (2024) Change in Charisma Description

The Pathfinder (1e) way is that Rules means you can try to do it until at book comes out which has a Feat for it.

WOIN Open-Licensed WOIN Starter Set Coming in 2023

I appreciate your general point, but I feel compelled to defend Fate Core here. The book isn't full sized (not sure what the term is; digest sized?) and there is a lot of white space. To pick a page at random; page 287 has 192 words on it. Even a comparatively word-dense page, like page 57...

WotC What is the last WotC adventure you played in or DM'd?

Last WotC adventure I ran was probably Red Hand of Doom, many years ago (unless I am forgetting something). I have run some TSR adventures more recently, the most recent of which was the Sea Devils trilogy. Last WotC adventure I've played in was Out of the Abyss. Not sure about the one before...

Castles and Crusades Classic Style Box Set

I just wish they'd gone a bit further in the streamlining. I regularly get enthused about Castles & Crusades, and then I come across something that makes me think "I'm sure there's a better way to do this", and my brain switches gears from "playing the game" to "designing the game" and the...

WOIN Open-Licensed WOIN Starter Set Coming in 2023

It is indeed, although I'm not sure I have ever actually seen it. (So it might not be plagiarism on my part.)

WOIN Open-Licensed WOIN Starter Set Coming in 2023

Like I always say, if the Watergate scandal happened today we'd have to call it Watergate-gate.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I'm very pleased to see that part; is it churlish of me to wish they'd made it a more prominent and maybe expanded a bit on what it meant? Also, in the absence of anything it else it strongly implies there won't be any new content under 1.0a. And I have no idea what WotC's position is...

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

That hardly ever happens. Not in a nice sequence like that, anyway :) . The player has rolled damage, the DM has announced the creature's death, a few more players have had their turn, and then somebody goes "But wait ..."

D&D General Are You Seriously Planning to Stop Playing and/or Running D&D Over The Recent OGL Developments?

Has anyone, at any table, ever said that? Yet some people are very annoyed about it - including me, and I don't even play 5th edition. I mostly play Pathfinder, and I'm worried about the possibility of losing access to Archive of Nethys. It's much easier to search on the website than to trawl...

Brian Lewis, original legal drafter of the OGL, speaks out

I wasn't a fan of 4e (although I've come to appreciate it a bit more since those days) but even to me some of their early objections to 4e as a game system seemed to be based on misconceptions. (I don't blame them at all for not liking the GSL that came with it.) "It won't allow us to tell the...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

That's a great way of describing it. I'll definitely be stealing that if I ever get the chance to pitch a C&C campaign to my group.

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

I appreciate the point you are making, but I seem to be struggling to get mine across. Lots of RPGs of a certain type have a bit of a downer on half orcs. It's part of the tradition, I don't have to like it, and I can and will change it if I ever play C&C. I complain about it because this is...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

I guess that would be the appeal, although playing a victim who sometimes gets to be a bully is not why I play RPGs. The book makes it seem like earning the trust and loyalty of anyone outside the immediate party of adventurers is pretty much impossible. There is a reference to half-orcs...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

It's an interesting system, and some of the "A" series adventures look really good. I'd love to run them at some point. I'm not a fan of the fantasy racism (species-ism?) in the players handbook (play a half-orc if you want to play a social outcast who is reviled by all the NPCs - with the...

    A Dragonlance Retrospective: Part 2

How do you handle splitting the party? Or do you keep the party together (and miss out on one of the branches of the campaign)? It's one of the things that has stopped me wanting to run the campaign - although my dream solution would be to have a large pool of players and run both elements in...
