D&D General Why are we fighting?

That was an interesting video, but now I really want a C.H.O.A.M. t-shirt.

D&D General Why are we fighting?

That does assume the encounter takes place on a (mostly) featureless plain. In some cases the bad guys should have thought about how they might retreat, before actually attacking the PCs. "If this goes badly, you know we are all going to die, right? Why are we doing this again?" Especially if...

D&D General (+) What Should Go in a D&D Book About Dungeons?

I found the Dungeoneer's Guide fascinating. I spent many a happy hour imagining what it would be like to wander through subterranean lands. So I'd say it was an interesting spelunking simulation. I agree that it was pretty much useless as a gaming product :)

Hot take: Most of Breaking Bad was actually boring filler

I'd argue very strongly that you shouldn't cut Marie from Breaking Bad. The "family intervention meeting" scene in season 1 where they get together to discuss Walter's condition, with the "talking cushion" (or whatever it was), gave a great insight into everybody's character, and it doesn't...

Hot take: Most of Breaking Bad was actually boring filler

I'm glad that wasn't what you said in your OP, because this thread would have been a lot shorter and I'd have missed out on a lot of interesting discussion. (Although, this being the internet, it wouldn't surprise me if someone out there has very strong opinions as to whether Breaking Bad should...

Hot take: Most of Breaking Bad was actually boring filler

And it would have been fine if they had, but personally I prefer what we actually got, which was a very enjoyable five season show. I enjoyed the characters and their situations, and am glad they didn't feel they had to concentrate on advancing the plot. Instead they allowed it to get where it...

Hot take: Most of Breaking Bad was actually boring filler

Thanks for the reply; hopefully this little tangent isn't too annoying for everybody else! The thing about spoiling the ending for Leftovers is that doesn't really spoil anything but the ending. I wasn't watching the show because I wanted to find out how a particular relationship ended up...

Hot take: Most of Breaking Bad was actually boring filler

"Depressing" is one word to describe Leftovers. If I were to use a few more words, I'd describe it as very, very depressing. I'm glad I watched it (on your recommendation) but I didn't like the ending as much as you did. (Maybe we interpret the ending differently?) And I certainly won't be...

D&D General How Do You Feel About Established Lore

I'm running a Pathfinder campaign set in Golarion, but since it's mostly aquatic I've had to design my own underwater region for the adventures to take place in. (The only official lore I'm aware of that might have been detailed enough is in the Ruins of Azlant adventure path, and one of my...

Level Up (A5E) Working on a Kender

I seem to remember the Taunt ability has been part of Kender since the beginning, but I've never liked it much. I think Tasslehoff is adorable (I appreciate that plenty of people don't!) and whilst "in-world" most people find Kender to be infuriating I never got the sense that Kender are...

D&D 5E (2014) Chronicles of Eberron Is Keith Baker's New D&D Book, out now!

Ah yes, Aerenal's "Irian" manifest zone. In my version of Eberron that's just something they tell to the tourists :) Of course, if the setting's Demon Lords ever do manage to escape, all the benevolent spellcasters in the world won't make any difference.

DMs Guild How to Spend A Lot of Time Not Making Money

It's always interesting to read this kind of stuff from publishers. I'm way too disorganised to even be able to put something into publishable form, let alone then figure out how to actually publish it. So I've got lots of respect for anybody who manages to publish something. There are lots...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Permanently Removes The Term 'Race'

If this was TSR, we could expect books to contain rules for chariot species and "speciesing against time".

D&D 5E (2014) Chronicles of Eberron Is Keith Baker's New D&D Book, out now!

Thank you for the reference to Map Perilous. I've just bought it, and it's so awesome it's actually made me want to run a 5th edition game so I can try out some of the NPCs (I usually play Pathfinder). I've already got the Eberronicon, which is a great overview of the setting.

D&D General So which 2e adventures are beloved?

I ran The Shattered Circle in Pathfinder as a prequel adventure to the Second Darkness adventure path, and I enjoyed it a lot. The players enjoyed it as well, although their favourite moment was actually a happy accident - they were being pursued by a gibbering mouther or something, and it fell...

Dragonlance Did you play Dragonlance using the pregens?

The Dragonlance modules also require you to split the party into two groups part of the way through, with each group having separate adventures and then meeting up again at the end. As I understand it, each player has to run two characters, one in each group. (The players get to choose which...

Dragonlance Did you play Dragonlance using the pregens?

Played a couple of modules as the pregens, although the DM kept Raistlin as a DMPC. He told me I was playing Caramon wrong, since I saw my "big brother" role as getting Rasitlin to shape up and stop being such a whinger. Apparently I should have been more "supportive". Only the DM had read any...

Rivers of London, RuneQuest Gods, Regency Cthulhu Coming Soon From Chaosium

I've only read the first 3 or so books, but one of the things that I really didn't like was the "fey" basically enslaving people who accepted hospitality from them. (For example, a man accepted a cup of tea when he came to read the meter and apparently never got to see his wife and children...

What book would you like to see become a movie/mini-series?

Presumably you mean the Book of the New Sun? I've never seen it referred to as the "Torturer" series before (although that might just be me). It would work well as a travelogue, but I think most of the nuance would be missed in a TV show. Although, since Gene Wolf, is way too clever for me, I...

GM Partiality. To be, or not to be...

I agree with pretty much everyone else in that I think you made the right decision. My only query is whether the Travellers were sufficiently aware of the likely consequences if they did stop the ship in-system, so they could at least consider temporarily letting it get away so they could deal...
