Fantasy Craft 2nd printing PDF now available

Issues like updating are why I always get PDFs now. I do like that Pathfinder's core rules are free. I don't use them (just not my kind of game and too hard for me to change), but I can look them over when occasionally I think about it and not have wasted money.

Fantasy Craft 2nd printing PDF now available

Do you really expect a small company to be able to offer you such a nice, large PDF as that for so little money?

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

Seems a pretty easy fix, then: just enforce PL caps on all forms of damage. Requires maybe one line added. Maybe allow a break of max +5 for crits and Autofire only, and don't allow the Improved Critical feat. (And I'm not pointing this at you, Doug. This is for the system.) EDIT: Actually...

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

My prediction is that it won't, because that's not one of the bigger complaints that have been going on over at the M&M forums, those complaints being what the designers said they were listening to. I'm curious: what would you expect them to be able to do to make it better?

Games You Have But Have Never played

In some cases it depends on what you mean by "have never played". I own a lot of supplements for D&D 3e, but since I've actually played the system I don't think I'd count those. Arcana Evolved, on the other hand, I guess is different enough for these purposes, and it goes on my list. Exalted...

Pathfinder 1E What we want in our Golarion...

Currently my problem (at least, the one that wouldn't radically alter the setting and thus make very many people mad at me) is that it's too well-defined. All the places have names and information and only have unknown within their regions. For me that's not fantasy, that's pulp adventure, and...

Let's rant! When house rules get stoopid...

I don't see how "The PCs can't die" is worse than any flavor rule so long as everyone agrees to it. I've played games like that, and you can still have fun because while you know your character can't die you don't know what's going to happen next in the story.

Campaigns in a nutshell. Adventures in a sentence.

Necessary Ev—er, Retirement: The corners have been explored. The tombs have been plundered. The mystic baddies are dead. Nations use diplomacy and the threat of force rather than force. Adventurers are suffering from habitat loss. Now what? Do you settle down quietly with skills that don't...

Other than vaguely European medieval fantasy...

You know there's a setting called Welcome to HAEL (that's the actual spelling, in case you're confused) which features a fantasy world where the orcs and the gnolls "won" the whole "these kind of humanoids fight those kind of humanoids" conflict, and now they're the big important races, with...

Is Dying Such a Bad Thing?

I see with "play it cautious because it's realistically smart" two problems: what real people would most often do, and being smart. Most real people wouldn't be caught doing what the PCs are doing........or they would be caught dead. So by real statistics the characters are very unlikely to be...

Other than vaguely European medieval fantasy...

You know other than vaguely European medieval fantasy might be vaguely American contemporary fantasy or vaguely science-fiction futuristic fantasy.

Is Dying Such a Bad Thing?

Yes it would be interesting. But no it wouldn't have the same thrill. Because it's not about the thrill. It's about figuring out an interesting puzzle. I treat the story as the puzzle: how do I use each new development to add? But I can't use death: it's a disruption in the flowing of...

    Creativity, or lack thereof...

I've been doing RPG-like stuff with the same group for years now, and all of us have stuff we've reused and reused, sometimes re-working them, sometimes porting them over whole-cloth from wherever else they were. Even sometimes using characters ripped straight out of some popular work we've...

Is Dying Such a Bad Thing?

Well I could point out that not all stories revolve around death-defying thrills. But since I assume you're talking about games like D&D where risking life in some form is what it's for we've passed the need for that. It still could be that some people treat the game more like a puzzle, with...

Why is flight considered a game breaker?

Interesting thread all the way. My take on the whole thing is that I like cool stuff, but only care for power when I'm being limited. I hear these stories of players using the same strategy over and over. And the people relating these stories say it makes things boring. I think so too, but...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

But this doesn't have to be necromancers. In fact seeing perfectly ordinary people being prejudiced and cruel I'd say is worse than death. At least when you're dead you don't have to keep seeing it. Who says it's foul? Necromancers might take great care to preserve the bodies of the dead so...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

No, no we are not. We may be agreed that it could be evil depending on how far it is taken. Nazis are bad guys based on their beliefs. Giving them even eviler things to do therefore overdoes it and ruins their flavor. 1) People who are hurting other people. 2) No one. In real life people...

Is necromancy evil or only as harmless as talking to your dead grandmother?

I would have voted "No" except it included the hedging "Depends on how it's used." If I'm going to use a hedge it's not going to be that. Instead I say "No, unless the reasons it's evil are applied equally and without arbitrariness." (Just addressing "Animate" spells right now.) Because it...
