    "Visions of the future"

I started giving one of the PCs visions of an artifact that I hoped he would try to claim further down the road. But then I killed him, turned him into intelligent undead, and the player rolled up a new PC. They turned the undead beastie to dust. Then when he came back as a petitioner, they...

    Drinking and gaming?

QFT. If not with alcohol, then with something. There is definitely a place in role-playing for drinking matches. In seans23's campaign, he ran us through Three Days to Kill. There's a drinking game in there called "I'll Kill You." Sean made the tactical error of playing it against multiple...

    Help me accept psionics

Psionics is just magic, with a different accounting system. (I use the transparency rule) And you can think of psions as the opposite of warlocks. Compared to wizards, warlocks generally don't burn out. Psions burn out relatively faster than wizards.

    Help with Institutional Magic Abuse

oh, whoops, Races of Destiny. That's a good urban book anyway. And I *do* have a copy of that here. Page 166 The spells are: Insignia of Alarm Bar2 Cle2 Pal2 Insignia of Blessing Cle3 Pal3 Insignia of Healing Bar3 Cle3 Insignia of Warding Cle3 Pal3 They are a Long range spread, centered on...

    Rapid Summoning and duration

My cleric saved the rogue's neck with a first-level smi. Twenty feet away, across a spiked pit, and facing two hobgoblins, she was rather grateful for the flank. Gosh, you're right, I should have cast cure light wounds or something. Thank you for your insight.

    Help with Institutional Magic Abuse

Check the Insignia spells from the Player's Handbook 2. I don't have the book here, but off the top of my head I can think of the Alarm and Warding flavors. Everyone attuned to the spell carries a little trinket that alerts everyone within long range, I think, and maybe people get buffs, too...

Control Winds & your game world

An 11th level caster is quite powerful. A 19th level caster is insanely powerful. Yes, this power is in line with the spell. Your escape options are teleportation spells, fortitude-save-buffing spells, and dispelling the damn thing.

    Fire Bad

Where does it say anything about you controlling it? It's a long range spell. You can snuff a fire five hundred feet away! You: creature with darkvision Them: blokes carrying a torch 150' away. You cast pyrotechnics, blinding them, and you run up and hack them to pieces in the dark. What...

    Rapid Summoning and duration

Does Rapid Summoning effectively shorten the duration of the summon monster spells? e.g. A first-level conjurer casts summon monster i. The beastie appears and takes a swipe at someone. Next round the beastie disappears...before or after its full attack? Does it get an action? Does it just...

What do you consider yourself best/worst at?

Quite Good: knowing the rules, knowing the monsters (oh yes I will use every one of those spell-like abilities against you), keeping sprawling combats mostly in line (three-dimensional movement, ongoing spell effects, offstage buffing, yadda yadda). I am a combat machine, even after a couple of...

    Transdimensional Summon?

pardon the thread necromancy I don't see this anywhere in the feat description. A summon monster creates an effect, and according to the wording of Transdimensional Spell, it seems that that effect can affect targets lurking in coexistent planes. Of course, you are still stuck with the problem...

    Fallen Celestials / Risen Fiends

No, it doesn't. That hezrou was something your DM made up, and more power to him/her! That module becomes quite the unending slog without some homebrew spice.

    The ArchBard

I love the work here. So now that you've got your Archmage, what are you going to do with it? Which High Arcana are you going to grab? maybe Spell Power, Arcane Reach, and Arcane Fire? Just guessing here, but I think Arcane Fire is a must.

The Worst and/or Best Player You've Ever Known

Worst: this guy only played barbarian lesbians. and the rules were waaay too complicated for him (power attack? fatigue? too hard!). Second Worst: guy refused to play anything but a chaotic evil assassin (1st ed) with all 18s in his ability scores. At the end of the day he would death attack...

Alienist (from Complete Arcane) - worth it ?

Particle_Man is being a troll. Ignore. Wu Jen + Alienist seems like a fine combo, with lots of good flavor to boot. I might wait longer to enter the PrC than I would as a wizard, though, to pick up elemental mastery and maybe another spell secret before venturing off into the Far Realm. Or...
