    D&D 5E (2014) Let's talk about actually *creating* high-level content.

You'll need to buff their to-hit. They show up late in OoTA and basically do nothing. The key thing here is to not let the party get in a full round of actions against the dragon in the first round, or it's over before it starts.

D&D 5E (2014) Silent Image and Minor Illusion size restrictions

I take it terms of the grid. Fits in a 5' cube = medium creature. So you could make an image of a person, and I am not going to quibble about whether his head must be bowed down a few inches, since I don't really care about that level of granularity anyway.

Did you mean an ancient black dragon, then? Because a 17th-level party could likely take out an adult dragon in one round.

    Medieval Toilets: The awful truth!

The use of urine for various things was unsurprising. Not that I knew about it, but there aren't a lot of sources of organic chemicals in the pre-petroleum world. We still use urea to treat diesel emissions, though we make it out of petroleum instead of piss now.

What normally happens after a TPK?

Early in a published storybook, just bring in new characters. I paid fifty bucks for this book, and I'll be damned if I will let something like a TPK mean we only get through $7.35 worth of content. Late in a published storybook, it means they get The Bad Ending. In a sandbox, if they still...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's talk about actually *creating* high-level content.

Well, if it works out, great. It seems like a high cognitive-load sort of encounter, especially for a party that is presumably 14th level or less.

D&D 4E How to speed up combat?

The only thing I have to add is that when it is clear that an enemy is fully rekt, but still has several rounds of HPs left, just kill it on the next hit. No need to drag it out.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's talk about actually *creating* high-level content.

You can follow the KISS principle and still have a reasonably challenging encounter that prevents the party from waltzing in and going nova. The main thing to think about is designing the lair around the monster such that if the party tries to just sit there and mindlessly dish out damage...

D&D 5E (2014) Do You Prefer Sandbox or Party Level Areas In Your Game World?

I like the Sandbox on the condition that the DM ensures that there is a reliable way to identify YOU ARE TOO SHORT FOR THIS RIDE other than "lmao TPK." I usually try to do this.

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

I will also add here that Void Dragons are incredibly badass and terrifying, and your party will not forget the utter devastation they faced when you hit them with one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

You calculated the average damage a 14th-level sorc does in a 2-round nova based on the assumption the target doesn't have Legendary Resistance. What exactly are you blowing all your biggest resources on? Is it the traditional Nonthreatening Cube of Infinite Hit Points that lives in the middle...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

People who assume the sorts of BBEGs 14th-level parties go nova on won't have Legendary Resistance don't have much room to boast about their awareness of basic mechanics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

Sure, it is. At this tier, the Sorlock is basically like a ranged Fighter who gave up hit points for extra Action Surges and pushes bad guys around for free. Every additional level at this point just grants him the ability to Action Surge more often. Once he hits 5th level, he basically never...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

Have you even read this thread? You seem unclear that I was DMing the adventure. I'm explaining what I saw. I might make a mistake here or there on a turn's worth of action economy when responding to your white room theorycraft, but it is mostly irrelevant, because I am in fact speaking from...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

You cast in in the morning, using a 3rd level slot. You know what else is cool about Sorlocks vs Warlocks? Proficiency in CON saves. So the party Sorlock rarely lost Hex compared to the full Warlock. He may have taken War Caster, but this was a year ago, so I don't remember. Pure Sorc, 14th...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

You sacrifice two caster levels to get a) An at-will attack that keeps pace with a Fighter b) The ability to easily power up that attack to be one of the most powerful attacks in the game c) The ability to do this increasingly frequently. The roughest level is 3. It evens out at 5 and picks up...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

As soon as you make 2 levels of Warlock, it's all gravy from there. I never really know how to respond to people who try to use theorycraft to trump experience. I can say I've never seen a published adventure maintain a consistent 6-8 encounters per day, nor did I see many encounters last 3-5...

    D&D 5E (2014) Could a Sorcerer with a 1 Wizard dip fulfill everything unique about a wizard?

The above PC was 14th level, W2/S12. There's no shortage of resources when your sheet has this on it (plus two short rest recharge slots): At that point, you're just crapping out hexed EB everywhere, quickening virtually whenever you want, rarely using your other slots for anything than...
