    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I played 2 sessions of it. I was warned by the other players not to play a Fighter, which is what I wanted to play, since it was apparently one of the hardest classes to build correctly. That seemed weird to me. I'd played a few sessions of 2e as a Fighter, and it was my preferred class in...

Pathfinder 2E Is It Time for PF2 "Essentials"?

Anecdote: The company that hired me got bought by an international conglomerate a few years ago. It had a shockingly low rate of profit. It was enough to keep the sole proprietor and CEO's yacht afloat and his mansion heated. Now that we're part of a publicly traded company, we had to cut a lot...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want out of crafting rules?

Managing inventory via pen and paper sucks. A magic item crafting system should be less about collecting bits of crap from all over the map or saving up money, and more about giving the DM keys to send the party off questing to forge the blade. Example: So rather than presenting an...

What's the best and worst D&D book you own from any edition?

Best: 4e's Open Grave: Secrets of the Undead. Not quite a setting book, not quite a monster manual, but an overall excellent trove of ways to them your campaigns around the undead. I used this quite a bit when I ran an Eberron campaign centered in Karrnath. Worst: 4e's Monster Manual. Ugh. What...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate solution: Whack-a-mole healing

Clerics have a 3rd-level spell, Beacon of Hope, which maximizes all healing done in its aura. It seems like your house rule is almost like an always-on Beacon.

    D&D 5E (2014) 3 Classic Settings Coming To 5E?

Whether or not he actually suffered any particular mental handicap, he died without producing offspring, and the War of Spanish Succession was a particularly long, hard one. Wars of succession were the most common sorts of wars in Europe for a long time. Fortunately, she didn't abdicate and...

    D&D 5E (2014) 3 Classic Settings Coming To 5E?

I don't like the general trend of demanding fictional worlds be sanitized to work more like how somebody imagines an ideal world ought to work, as though when you imagine things you're morally obligated to imagine better things than exist. Sometimes this goes even as far as demanding the bad...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC to increase releases per year?

    I'd release Spelljammer under SRD.

D&D 5E (2014) WotC to increase releases per year?

I don't want a new monster manual. I want a rewrite of the old one to account for the years of experience they have with the system.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

You can always drop whatever you're holding (and the silliness of litigating this during play and specifying where a sword falls and declaring when you pick it up is why I simply don't care).

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

RAW, it's not too much of a problem if you understand how the rules about interacting with objects work. See, dropping a weapon is free, and picking it up off the ground can be combined with your action. What happens if you pay close attention and make your players play it by the book is that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

You can sheathe or unsheathe your weapon as part of your action. If you want to sheathe/cast/draw, an EK can do that with a bonus action.

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want out of crafting rules?

I'd like to see rules for crafting consumables other than Potion of Healing. How is a Potion of Hill Giant Strength made, anyway?

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

Once I stopped reminding the AT about his spells, he basically stopped using them.

D&D 5E (2014) Flanking, advantage, and opportunity attacks

^^ same If I were to bring it back, I'd bring back 4e movement rules as well. Move more than 5', take an OA. Might even make it +2 to hit again rather than advantage, which is just really powerful (effective +5 to hit and 2x crit chance).

D&D 5E (2014) Cloak of Elvenkind - Advantage to Stealth AND -5 to passive perception?

5e's ability checks are deliberately left open-ended because of how exploitable 3.5 was, not to give DMs an excuse for consistently shutting down players and disallowing them to do the kinds of things they've always been able to do in D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

I'll throw in here that one reason I've come to dislike WotC published campaigns is that, since they're designed for any party to be able to complete by following the bread crumbs and killing the stuff in their way, they're not terribly amenable as written to these sorts of ribbon abilities...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do Assassins suck?

One way to screw up Arcane Trickster is to consistently forget you have spells unless the DM reminds you.

D&D 5E (2014) Cloak of Elvenkind - Advantage to Stealth AND -5 to passive perception?

Probably because there aren't that many DMs who, for all intents and purposes, never let you hide from something you can see, thus questions regarding sneaking up behind somebody, sidling up to a hallway junction and peeking around the corner, and so on, are relevant to actual play.

Would make this the first hit you score to avoid MC munchkinism.
