Have you been disillusioned by Eberron?

It just seems to me that setting assumptions about psionics and the questions that surround those assumptions are too much to swallow. I don’t follow why it would be likely that the fleeing humans wouldn’t want to bring psions with them. The kalashtar have several racial features (social...

Have you been disillusioned by Eberron?

I understand that I can add psionics to my Eberron game. But I can do that to any non-Dark Sun setting. That doesn't cut Eberron any slack when it comes to psionic integration in the setting. Eberron examines the impact of magic on how a society might develop. At the same time, psionics...

Have you been disillusioned by Eberron?

I am aware of nothing written for Eberron which states that you must possess a Quori soul fragment (like kalashtar) or exposure to the Quori in some way to be psionic. If that exists, then I would probably modify my stance a bit. I'm not familiar with the Ask Keith Baker thread. Could you...

Have you been disillusioned by Eberron?

Overall, I like Eberron, except for the psionics implementation. I think it's fair to suggest that Eberron mentions psionics, but doesn't integrate it one bit. One of the things that Eberron is usually praised for is that it has incorporated the practical existence of magic into the setting...

[Eberron] Why do none of the setting-specific races have a dragonmark?

But why construct races that are more powerful than PHB races and then balance the PHB races with a dragonmark? The designers could have just designed races of equal power to the PHB races and then given everyone dragonmarks. This seems to be the reason, I guess. It just strikes me as a poor...

[Eberron] Why do none of the setting-specific races have a dragonmark?

I'm with you (and Fafhrd) on this one, but why double up the dragonmarks? There are races that have a lock on two marks. Surely one mark could have been given to the Eberron races before doubling up the PHB races? It sticks out like a sore thumb and seems like a blunder to me.

[Eberron] Why do none of the setting-specific races have a dragonmark?

As I paged through the ECS the other day, this suddenly hit me. Perhaps it was obvious to some who read the book the first time, but I can be a bit slow, it seems. ;) Some races have multiple dragonmarks (halflings have Healing and Hospitality), but the four new Eberron-specific races have...

Five things that would change the game forever

In essence, you're agreeing with my original point. I believe that all the social systems and skills for D&D should be ripped out of the game and it should only concern itself with combat and physical action. In recent posts, I've been defending what a social system should look like if it's...

Five things that would change the game forever

But the PCs were just as much in control of their actions as in a physical confict. In each case, they ask themselves if they are willing to risk the outcome of the confict before they initiate it (death or being convinced to something you wouldn't normally do). After that, the dice take over...

Five things that would change the game forever

This is exactly how it should look, in spirit if not actual form. ;) You could throw in the roleplaying that you're concerned about. The player can speak as his character and the DM (through the NPC) can reply in character. But when it comes time to decide how the conflict is to be resolved...

Five things that would change the game forever

You can certainly add politics to the game, but the rules supporting politics are virtually non-existent. Why is there no "social AC" or "social hit points"?

Five things that would change the game forever

I can appreciate what you're saying. I know that comments like mine are used to fuel anti-D&D arguments. But the thread seems to be about what changes to the game would be most powerful and I'm suggesting that a frank embrace of the game's strengths in physical confict would be powerful. To...

Five things that would change the game forever

No, I think the game isn't designed for these things. The social systems in the game are not nearly as developed and comprehensive as the systems for combat and physical action. There are no substantive rules for handling a game in which social action is the primary method for solving...

Five things that would change the game forever

Absolutely right. Make the most common skills used in adventuring (Spot, Listen, Move Silently, Hide, Search, Disable Device, and one or two others) into secondary character traits and ditch the rest. D&D is not about crafting, bluffing, diplomacy, or wilderness survival. It is about kicking...

    True GenCon advice

One more thing... It's not about channeling the spirit of Hunter :):):):)ing Thompson while you prepare to spray the table with a fistful of d10s. You don't need a smack-addicted porn star on one arm holding your Jack Daniels while you tap your last Swamp to summon your Sengir Vampire. It's not...

    True GenCon advice

I've been thinking a bit about the conventional GenCon wisdom. If you cruise EN World or RPG.net and check for "GenCon advice threads", they seem to have it all wrong. All of the advice seems too safe: eat sensible meals, wear sensible shoes, be sure to get some sleep, don't blow all your money...

    Why are Warforged so bad?

The original poster is not wrong. Mike Mearls' Ironborn from "The Book of Iron Might" are the warforged done right.

best non TSR/WotC/d20/OGL published fantasy adventures

    T. Foster is right about Griffin Mountain, but I knew it as Griffin Island when I played it and thought it rocked damn hard. It's a campaign in a box. Simply amazing.

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

Joe Mucchiello summed it up nicely. I've seen everything that Dragon has to offer. The articles are all retreads in one form or another for those of us who have been around long enough. New spells, new items, new feats, new classes, new monsters are what Dragon does, but that doesn't do it...

What "big names" in the gaming industry have you met?

I have the dubious pleasure of seeing Mike Mearls with alarming frequency. ;) And I currently have a key to Jared Sorensen's house. :p
