    Skill Challenges for Dummies

At this point, it seems like arguing with Darth Cyric about math and probability is like arguing with an astrologer about astronomy.

    Skill Challenges for Dummies

But that's hardly intuitive from the RAW, is it? Without the benefit of the math that was crunched in the other thread, I don't think that this is a natural conclusion to draw. The hidden trap in the RAW is that a DM who assigns skill challenges based on how long it will take to perform a task...

    Skill Challenges for Dummies

Gambler's Fallacy? Tell that to the mathematicians who have analyzed skill challenge system. Your comment strikes me as perversely uninformed at best. As for the OP, I'd be much more inclined to side with you if you didn't make mistakes regarding the usefulness of some of the powers you list...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

QUOTED FOR EMPHASIS! Stalker0 has posted a mathematically rigorous, alternate skill challenge system in the 4e House Rules forum. THERE IS A LINK TO STALKER'S MODIFIED SKILL CHALLENGE SYSTEM IN THE OP! As examination of the other thread will show, I've been onboard with Stalker for a day or...

    How do I create minions?

I've been unable to find any rules in the MM or DMG that tell me how to build a minion. I found rules that let me build strikers, brutes, and the rest, but nothing on that page (or any other page I looked at) had similar, by-the-numbers rules for statting up a minion. Am I blind? Where should...

Stalker0's New Skill Challenge System (Version 1.0)

Excellent news and a nice, nuanced tweak. Stellar work, Stalker0. :)

Stalker0's New Skill Challenge System (Version 1.0)

Great system, Stalker0. I much prefer it over WotC's basic system. One question, however. One of your assumptions is that you'd like to see PCs succeeding around 80% of the time with a skill challenge. I'd like to set the baseline slightly lower, closer to 65%. Could that be achieved in a...

Where are the rules for creating minions?

I've looked in what I thought were the obvious places and I can't seem to find rules for making minions. Can anyone show me where these rules are? Thanks in advance. :)

Arrgh! This is it! Nothing to see here; move along! :p

    Attacks with Area Burst 1?

In another thread here on ENWorld, a 30th level warlock is statted up by someone with the books. A power called "Tendrils of Thuban" is described as an area attack with burst 1. Here's my question. Isn't a burst supposed to be a box with X number of squares per side, where X is the number...

    Will buy.com get sued?

It's only a smart move if they make more money from poached pre-orders than they do from penalties imposed by WotC, assuming that such penalties are forthcoming. Unleash the lawyers, I say! Lawyers always make things better. :)

    KOTS: The After Action Report

As expected, a very solid review, Lizard. :) I only quibble with the core of your negative criticisms, which seems to be that KotS didn't provide you with the full range of options that your normal, particular game sessions offer. As others pointed out, it's a limited, preview module designed...

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Nice job, Novem5er. I agree with Aria Silverhands' suggestion to do something with that road, too. :)

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

I agree that, based on the thin excerpt we've seen, there's not much flash in Fallcrest. But perhaps we should withold full judgment on Fallcrest until we've seen the full town? ;)

D&D is dying by the hour

Your understanding of the relative scale of both of these companies undermines your credibility. Paizo's financial position is at least an order of magnitude (if not two) smaller than WotC's. If you believe that cutting 5% off of a cake is a "good chunk", then your point is at least coherent.

Monsters that mark: A pain for DMs

Why not just write down the name of the marked character next to the hp total of the monster who did the marking? I assume that the OP keeps a tally of each monster's hp? If that monster can mark opponents, write the name of the marked character next to the marker's hp. If the mark changes...
