[Eberron] What is the place of the Dragonmarked Houses in the setting?

I'm mulling over a new PbP campaign idea surrounding Eberron and the Dragonmarked. I know that there's a new book out and I have plans to get it. In the meantime, I don't want the idea to collect dust. I want to flesh out this campaign idea. Since it's intended for a PbP game, I don't want...

    Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

I guess I'm referring to what Wrahn describes, since I think it allows for what I call the "scrolling quote box." ;)

"The Dhakaani Code": Modifiying Da Vinci for D&D/Eberron (possible spoilers)

I have a bit of a mixed reply. In crafting my response, I actually came up with a great idea for an Eberron campaign! The problem is that, if I reveal it, then I might spoil it for future use. So I will selfishly keep it to myself! :) I will offer this advice, though, which got me thinking...

    Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

Interesting build with the half-orc rogue. You can rely on the rogue's high skill point allowance to compensate for the Int penalty. Very clever. :) As far as Cha being the red-headed stepchild, that does seem to be the trend. Maybe a sorcerer or bard will come out of the woodwork? I think...

    Developing Political Issues

Politics is about power and who gets to wield it. In a magocracy, magic-users are the rulers. If we go with traditional 3.5 conceptions of magic, anyone who is smart enough can become a wizard and, by extension, a potential ruler. Who controls the process of learning magic? It should be a...

    Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

Looking back over my background, the character concepts so far seem to be running away from the orphaned adventurer stereotype. We've all put our families in danger! Fathers seem to be in short supply too. ;)

    Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

To be clear, does this mean that the additional two characters can't be one of the core four classes mentioned in the first part of the sentence? Your sentence can be read to say that you'll be selecting a fighter, cleric, arcane caster, and rogue, plus two other characters drawn from bards...

    Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

Two questions for you, Whiz (Ringo): 1) Psionics? Why not open things up a bit and include the SRD for chargen, rather than the PHB? 2) Can we present a couple of characters for consideration at the same time?

best 5th level spell for blaster sorcerer

What does it say about D&D spell and game design that I was able to predict the sorcerer's spell list with near-perfect accuracy before I saw it? ;) On topic, you have enough firepower. Wall of Force has a variety of uses and can save the party's butt in a fight by walling off the enemy...

    3.5, core classes forbidden

Why not run Arcana Evolved? Brand new classes, brand new races, and it's still d20. Granted, the magic system is different, so players that want to stick with the divine/arcane system will probably resist AE. ;)

    Disappointment with high-level spells?

Almost all spell choices past 6th level for any spellcaster are weak, IMO. Damage spells should just flat out end at 6th level and should just scale properly (Hello, XPH!). From 7th level on, the spells should be jaw-droppers. The old 10th level spells from the Dark Sun Companion come to...

    How do I roleplay 'creepy?'

Rent and watch American Psycho: The Director's Cut. Creepy and menacing is too hard to pull off. Sociopathic freak, on the other hand, is more doable. ;)

Web Enhancement for White Plume Mountain

As we drift further off-topic, I'd suggest that this is a bit glib. A character's sword might someday be a +5 Holy Avenger, but it's not really the same as a +1 longsword he's currently holding. As an analogy, while it might be said that I have an oak tree in my hand when I hold an acorn...

    2 Days 'Till GenCon . . . Why am I not Jazzed?

Maybe the B*lls-Out Manifesto will help: Here is my standard Gen-Con advice, titled: The Balls-Out Manifesto I've been thinking a bit about the conventional GenCon wisdom. If you cruise EN World or RPG.net and check for "GenCon advice threads", they seem to have it all wrong. All of the advice...
